One of the first magical effects I ever purchased as a child back in the 70's was something that may have been made by Tenyo. ??
If I remember correctly the effect was manufactured from of orange plastic. There were four round slots (two either end) divided in the middle by a sliding grove through which a mirror would be slid. I believe cardboard coins were supplied rather than real coins but as I say it was a long time ago. We are talking decades ago! Would someone please be kind enough to venture as to what the name of the effect might well be and whether it is still on sale? Many thanks. |

I was looking at various demos for Tenyo products when I recognised the name of the effect as being 'Eclipse'.I am relieved to see that it is made in BLACK plastic and from the demo seems to be using real coins (?).

There is no difference between the MB version and Tenyo's, right?

Eclipse is based on Paul Harris's wonderful effect called "Twilight"-hence the name Eclipse and it can be found in his tremendous Art of Astonishment series. Doug Henning performed this flawlessly on a television special. Paul's version used only a mirror and half dollar(s)-with all types of magic happening behind the looking glass. Eclipse is a wonderful rendition of Twilight where quarters change places; pennies change with them and then quarters appear all behind a mirror-perfect magic for Alice in Wonderland buffs! This effect is a masterpiece of mechanical construction! Unfortunately it is discontinued!

I remember having one of these - it was a good effect with the mechanism very smooth and silent. I got it from Alan Alan's Magic Spot in London - who raved over the effect.
I remember him telling me that (around 1980) he was in the USA and was in Tannen's. The guys demming in the shop were not over enthusiastic with the effect due to the potential angle problems and the product wasn't selling. Alan got behind the ramp and demmed it his way (with the necessary cover) for the next couple of hours - they shifted loads. Heaven only knows where mine is stored away - I haven't seen it for years unfortunately. The original Paul Harris version in the A of A is excellent - as is the revised (cleaner?) version using a S***l Coin gaff. I remember the PH version being advertised in Abra (around 1979) and it was 'all the rage' once Doug had performed it on TV. Was it marketed via Paul Diamond at the time? As another year passes, my memory is becoming more clouded! The Paul Daniels Magic Range (manufactured by Dubreq) had a version in 1982 - with a nice loading technique of 'the necessarry' via a plastic wallet that contained the mirror.
