I was thinking about getting Richard Kaufman's Basic Card Technique and On the Pass. What does everybody think?

If you're a beginner I wouldn't get On The Pass right now; then, I'm not sure how his basic card technique is but the title sounds like a good start.
If you enjoy learning from DVDs and you have some money I would go with Daryl's Encyclopedia of card sleights; I bought those when I first started and I enjoyed them a lot. If you enjoy learning from books try getting the Card College series, another great way to start. If you have anymore questions that I can maybe help you with feel free to PM me Justin. Thanks Shaun |

I am not familiar with Richard's videos but if you are beginning you can't do much better than Michael Ammar's Miracles of Modern Card Magic.
Vol 1 and 2 have enough material to keep you busy for a long while and the videos are well presented. Michael is a great teacher.

I agree with Shaun. Daryl's DVDs and the Card College are great resources.
If you are a little bit more intermediate level, go with Ammar's Card Miracles DVDs. They are great. |

re: Richard Kaufman's Basic Card Technique
If the DVD has the same content as his video then its an excellent learning aid. Lots of stuff if you have never really delved into cards, it will give you a good grounding and quite a few utility sleights. I would wait until you have progressed a bit before you get The Pass Vid/DVD. |

I really learned a lot from Kaufmans "Basic Card Technique". No tricks just cards sleights. I like to watch it and practice along as he demos the various moves.
"The Pass" is also very good. He shows several variations of the pass and thoroughly explains each one. Paul |

I have both the Kaufman videos that you are talking about and I would recommend the Daryl videos over the Kaufman videos.
IMHO if you are looking for sleights, and just getting started, the Daryl videos teach the slights better then the Kaufman video. As for the Kaufman PASS video it’s great! But if you are just starting out this might be a little overwhelming for you. The Pass tape was one of the first tapes I bought and I didn't really get full use of the information until I was more familiar with lots of other slights. Good Luck

Thanks for the information, everybody. I guess I'll follow everybody's advice and get the first two Daryl DVDs (that's about all I can afford right now). If anybody has any other suggestions, I'd be glad to hear them.
