Hey All,
I've been working on John Bannon's CHOP2 chop cup routine. Very cool to have "odd" loads between the regular balls sequence and the final loads. Does anyone know of any other routines that use this idea? And, Is anyone doing or working on this or a variation of this routine? Would love to hear about it. Jorey

I never liked this idea. It appears to me to be a sidetrack. The whole purpose of the chop cup, really, is to get to the final loads fairly quickly. Anything that gets in the way is a minus, in my opinion.

I do something like this, only with a Benson Bowl. I use 1.5" diameter fake diamonds instead of sponge balls and the final-final load is a 3" diameter fake diamond. Before the giant fake diamond, I load a vintage glass door knob with a brass attachment where it goes into the door. It is absolutely a sidetrack, but it's actually easier to load than the giant diamond. The surprise of the door knob gives me all the time I would ever need to load the final fake diamond. It's the only odd load I've ever used that I can think of.

Dhouck,
So, the idea is a distraction load similar to showing the third final load (in a Cup & Balls routine) to distract while loading the fourth final. Is that accurate?

In the Benson Bowl routine, as it was originally done by Benson, there really wasn't a final load sequence. Instead, he led into a sponge ball routine. Don Alan may have been the one who introduced the idea of using a final load in the bowl. He did a bit where he would go from the bowl to a sponge ball interlude, then produce a bagel.
Later, he used a hockey puck.

I perform this occassionally. It is an odd routine - not bad - just odd. Really, the cup is serving as the source for a long string of production items, each one "misdirecting" from the next load. I know for a fact that it isn't as strong as a normal cups and balls routine (well, at least the one I do), so I only really do it if I have a lot of kids at the table.

I personally like the idea. I also like his cups and balls routine.
I thought JBs chop cup routine is one of the better ones I've come across.
