Hey guys.... I'm trying to change a rocky raccoon into a spring skunk.
My first thought was a mirror box, then thought of using a bengal net which is usually used for vanishes. Does anyone know if that might work? And could you take the skunk out of the net after appearance, thanks. |

You couldn't do it with a standard Bengal Net. The racoon would vanish all right, but you'd have to make a special custom job to make the skunk appear in its place. How about a small garbage can made sort of like a duck bucket? Both raccoons and skunks like to hang around garbage cans.
Of course, the ultimate way would be to fit the skin of one over the other. After all, they are just spring puppets.

Thanks Spellbinder...... I have a duck bucket and that would be good..... could include a bunch of other props. But I think I may go with a jumbo devils hank that a very nice magic Café member has provided.

Why are you changiing a raccoon into a skunk?
I only ask because firstly it seems a rather odd thing to be doing (so I'm just curious really) and secondly it would be easier to suggest a prop if we knew the premiss, purpose and context of the action. |

That's what he's being for Halloween ...... he's making his own costume.....
rocky goes in w/ 2 pieces of black fur and one white and comes out a skunk I think I read that idea in Magic or MUM magazine..... or maybe laughmakers. |

Well, maybe it would make sense to put him in something like a changing cubicle then (or change bag but only magicians would get the joke...).
Eric Sharp describes a small version of the 2 door appearing lady illusion to be used with a doll in his book. This could be adapted with a skunk attached to one door and attaching the raccoon to the other. And made to look like a changing room. Or simpler than that a frame with a curtain which you put him behind and dump into a servante and reveal a skunk. You could also do a gag where the final touch is his smell and have an aerasol of draino that you apparently spray under his armpits, wherever they are. If you don't limit yourself to a skunk you could hollow out a teddy bear and slide him inside that (yuck) inside some kind of device. Or use a multiplying bottle and have him go as a drink of some kind. Or switch him for a raccoon in an elvis costume. If you make up a thrashing bag (like the one that comes with a wacky weasel) that is also a change bag. You can put him in then have him thrash around as he "gets changed" then pull him out as the skunk or whatever else. Is it more a gag or a trick? If it's just a gag I'd be tempted just to pull out a skunk , claim it's a raccoon and when the children disagree say it's a raccoon going to a fancy dress party as a skunk. I think it's funnier though if the two objects aren't similair. I'd have him go as a teapot or a lampshade. George |
