It's done the same way nearly every illusion on his show is done.
Ask the "ordinary" people who "saw it live" if they were fooled. |

I think the secret here is to make sure the girl is completely hypnotized before attempting the effect.

I didn't see the part leading up to it, I'm sure the girl was just some "random stranger" he picked off the street.

As with many of his levitations and suspensions, the people around him are "stooges" and it is obvious on how this is done. One can see it if one looks.
