Interesting to see this morning as part of the regular reported news on the national "Fox and Friends" this morning (8-27-2010)- a Mr. Dick Stoner. Dick owns a large novelty and magic store in Fort Wayne, Indiana (usually advertises in The Linking Ring each month) and has been a mentor to many a budding magician over the years. Apparently Dick's store was robbed recently, so he switched no a "No Cash Accepted" policy. Purchases now must be by credit or debit card, check, etc.., he is making news as a store that no longer accepts currency. He does not want the cash kept in his store for the safety of his employees. They aired what the outside of store looks like and another very short segment with Dick behind the counter... Sad to see that crime continues to be a problem for honest retailers.

Talk about spinning a bad thing into GREAT publicity!!
I know it is a safety thing but makes you wonder what this can start - I can see the spin - "we don't even want our own governments money" - lol |

Dick Stoner has 2 store's in Fort Wayne. His 2nd store at a shopping center his youngest son runs was robbed. He employee that is a beautiful woman that has worked for the family business for years was tied up with one of those plastic strips for electrical wireing and such.
The store is across from a huge Wal-Mart store, but their store is positioned at a corner of the center. Both stores on either side has gone out of business. This is the 3rd time this store was robbed. So it was time for stronger measures. Believe it or not the 1st time it was robbed the crooks cut a hole into the back wall and stole the whole safe from the building. Stoner's still has a store downtown, I think this store will be accepting cash, but have not spoken to Dick recently. |
