Dan, I've been practicing your method, and after 30 minutes or so of practicing, I've pretty much eliminated most of the noise. Thank you very much. You saved me the trouble of having to make a clip.
Fman111 has also pm'd me a great alternative, which I'll also be trying in the future. I'd go more into detail about it, but I'm not sure he'd want me to share since he sent it via pm. And RS1963, I'm rather confused by the fact that you keep saying that I don't want to take any advice from the members here, when I've done nothing but. The idea of the coin clip came from Jimeh, while Dan's workaround came from the recommendation of MB. I'm also planning to employ the effect Fman111 sent me. Just because I want another solution other than your preferred methods doesn't mean that I'm trying to disrespect anyone. To me, the beauty of magic is that there's always more than one way to achieve an effect. Different methods work for different people, and I'm sorry if I don't conform to what you demand. |

Thank you for this question. I had begun sliding coins into the top of the pocket of my jeans where it is tight enough to hold the coin until I am finished, or slow them down enough so they are quiet. I have found that if I do the sliding carefully, I can reset the hopping halfs, Johnson gaffs, and show them at the end to have gone back to the pocket. But that is no real solution, looser pants would not work. I am not doing Gadabout Coins, intend to get it in the future though.
The answers here are, of course, useful for anytime the coins need to be pocketed quietly. So thank you for the answers too. Love this site, I am learning how to solve problems before they become problems. |

Ken, I highly suggest you PM Dan Watkins and inquire about his method. It's quite simple, actually, and is also very effective. Fman111 also has a great solution if you're interested in attempting to switch in your non-gaffed hopping halfs.

If the routine with your coins are short, try adding wax on back of the coins. At the end, pressure the coins together so they will stick.

Glad I could be of some real help here as to Dan's work. I would also suggest you seriously take a deeper look into that DVD, his "Coin Man Walking." Loads of good stuff in there even better than this little piece of gold you found. Hey maybe even others here now will revisit this old classic with what might prove even for them to be a better way to skin a cat. Thanks for chiming in Dan and hope all is well. -Mb

In a nutshell, I suggested putting the visible coin in the pocket, and keeping two in fingerpalm with a Ramsey subtlety to imply that it's empty. When the the vanish is revealed, go to the pocket, retrieve "all three coins" show that they have gone to the pocket. Toss them out for examination.
The current economic crisis is due to all the coins I've vanished.

For the "Gadabout" routine, I usually slide #1 in deliberately, slide #2 in on top, then bring #3 out again and show them. While putting #1/#2 in, I patter about "...some people don't believe I am actually placing it in my pocket..." etc. This gives me a little auditory "cover", and then the third one can also be slipped in on the others that are now safely in place.
Also, a slight "wriggle" of the fingers in the hand that is ultimately empty is a convincer while doing #1/#2. Just a tiny wriggle and a glance over to the hand. Smalll and subtle, but seems to take the heat off the sound. Good luck. Bruce |
