Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.

You can do some really nice Jumbo Coin manipulation routines and if you have an overhead camera you could do some really great Matrix type effects etc. Check out Hayashi's work for more info on both of these.

It really depends on the size of stage and audience.
A couple that might play well are: David Roth's 'Hanging Coins'. Eric Jone's "Audio". |

Coin magic on stage would require a whole different approach. I think Mickey Silver would be the only one who could pull it off. This is assuming no big screen video enhancements. Coins are just too small to read well from a distance, and larger gestures are required. Effects like Coins to Glass, Miser's Dream or Coin Ladder do work because they have sound and flash.
That was the reason I wasn't blown away by Liu Chen's Coins Through Table. It needed the big screen in order to be seen by the audience. This detracts somewhat from the performance IMHO.

Devices such as a coin ladder make the effect visible to large crowds.

English magician Romany does a brilliant stage version of Devant's coins across effect. I can't imagine that anyone else would be able to copy her routine, though! Look out for clips on YouTube.

The Ramsay trick using a hat was done on stage, so the Roth item which duplicates part of that longer routine with improved handling will work very well (hint, use EG in the Ramsay trick using Roth's moves )

Was it Gali Gali who did the coin snatch on stage? A nickel and a dime? Or was that Leipzig? It's amazing what can be made to carry with presentation.
Coin to Impossible Location, like the ball of wool in Bobo's also works well on stage. Pat Page has a routine with four coins and a silk that I've used too, it's a production, vanish, production routine. And an old coin trick for stage was to take a stack of coins, and position them between the teeth of a boy, and pretend you were going to knock one coin out of the stack, but you find the boy was too nervous and the whole stack has become a solid lump, apparently from the strength of the boys bite! Any one fancy re-creating that one? Anyone?! Paul |
