I want an item to look rusted aside from a good effects paint job any other suggestions I would love a texture to it.

Its the back of a button loks like a chrome or nickle coating.

Firstly, test it with a magnet to see if it WILL rust. If yes, then scour with steel wool to break the plated surface. Then, smear with lemon juice and wait a few days. The speed at which it rusts will be dependent on the humidity where you live.

Do you want to RUST the object or make it look like it is rusted? Usually you want to avoid real rust. There are finishes that look great that you can get at the hardware store that will make it LOOK rusty. |

Micro Mark is good but their shipping would be high for one jar of paint. Its a minimum of $8.95 for under fifty bucks. I order from them about once a month, they stock most everything, ship fast but the shipping is high. Their website is a good place to see whats available though.

To look rusted without actually being rusted use Rustall. Modelers use this. Great product... the best I've ever used. Designed to work equally as well on non-rustable things. Makes plastic models look like rusted metal, etc.
