Earlier today there was a story out before the vote took place:
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/09/22/tex......testnews I thought it noteworthy and rather comforting that Christian and Jewish (and Muslim) leaders issued a statement that the proposed resolution was misleading and / or inaccurate: [N]early 100 religious leaders from Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths have signed an open letter coordinated by the Texas Faith Network that rejects the resolution as either "misleading" or flatly inaccurate. The group's members plan to deliver the letter to state board members during Friday's vote. "As leaders from faith communities across Texas, we urge the state board to reject this misleading and inflammatory resolution," Rev. Bobbi Kaye Jones, superintendent of the Austin District of the United Methodist Church, said in a statement released Monday. "Once again, however, realistic information takes a backseat to religious intolerance here, and education suffers a blow."

Well censorship is a natural reaction to a "creeping Middle Eastern influence in the publishing industry" isn't it?
Wasn't Texas talking about leaving the Union?

Pentagon destroys thousands of copies of......s memoir
Quote:
The Department of Defense recently purchased and destroyed thousands of copies of an Army Reserve officer's memoir in an effort to safeguard state secrets, a spokeswoman said Saturday. It’s important to note that Army Reserve brass had given the project the greenlight before publication. So, I guess the crowd that got all excited over the Koran burning issue will be all over the government for destroying this book, eh? Yeah, I don't really think so, either. |

I suppose one could argue that NOT burning Korans might indirectly help keep some American soldiers safer in Afghanistan. But in that case, they should SUPPORT the military for trying to keep this Army Reserve officer's memoir from getting out by burning it, if we believe that the classified information it contains might have endangered soldiers.

Pretty much everything I've found comes from a single story at http://www.bosnewslife.com . I can't find any mainstream coverage of this story at all. Thanks John

Not surprising. Nothing to see here . . . nothing for you to worry about . . . move along . . . we have some important news for you about Lady Gaga and Stephen Colbert . . .

I spent about half an hour looking for any story about Arshed Masih that didn't reference the single item from http://www.bosnewslife.com . The story may or may not be legitimate; that's what I'd like to know. If the story is true, then shame on the mainstream (English) press in Pakistan, Canada, US, England, Australia and India for not printing a single word. Corroboration from any source would be nice. Magnus,
Not a cheap shot at all. I think there are many stories that the mass media choose not to cover. That's the first step in controlling the marketplace of ideas. Compare the number of stories on Stephen Colbert's humiliating performance before a Congressional subcommittee, with the number of stories on senior DOJ Attorney Christopher Coates's testimony before the US Civil Rights Commission. There are some things they don't want you to know. Woland |

Woland, both of the stories you cite are repeating the feed from http://www.bosnewslife.com . This is exactly what I am trying to avoid.

Perhaps you are right. But, not to belabor the point, there are dozens of stories like that one, reported by organizations monitoring the persecution of Christians around the world, that are never picked up by the mass media.
For example, I don't think the New York Times or the CBC reported that Christians, Hindus, and Ahmadiyya Muslims were being denied flood aid in Pakistan. Even Shi'ites were left holding the short end of the stick. TIME did cover the story, however: http://www.time.com/time/world/article/0......,00.html In general, however, news that does not conform to the message is not reported. Woland |
