Hey Everyone,
Have a question for you. If considering taking an illusion show on the road (starting a tour), where do you find out information on how to find theaters? Does every state have a big book with a list of theaters? Individual cities? A good internet site with all this information? Any information anyone could give me would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi JAEIII,
I am pretty sure Pollstar.com has a somewhat comprehensive list of venues. This would at least let you know what venues are in a particular city and likely how to call them. As for more specific info, I can give you plenty of info for the state of Colorado, and info on some of the theaters I have been to on a tour, so let me know if I can be of help! --Jack |

Get a list of the colleges and universities in areas you want to perform. They probably have a stage for any size crowd. May be the most economical way to go. You may be able to get some free stage and lighting help from students.

Thanks to both of you.
Jack, I live in Texas so I'm not sure if your Colorado information would do me that much good right now. Perhaps if I'm fortunate enough to get out of Texas I'll give you a call. Thanks for the website too, I'll check it out! Cardfather, I was unaware that colleges took on touring shows. Are colleges something a lot of entertainers visit? Who would you contact at the college to look into that? Any further information on this would be great. Thanks to both of you. If anyone else has any further suggestions, they'd be appreciated!

i think there's a publication of theatre listtings. gives you capasity, stage dimension and so forth . . .similar to the calvacade [an fairs/exposition listing] which is published yearly.

JAEIII,
Colleges and universities do book entertainment. At my college, we had a hypnotist come in. At my brother's college they have had TV tapings, famous people doing lectures, and movies. I know the magicians "The Spencers" are masters of the college circuit. I work at a university and we have a performing arts center (in fact that is the department I work in). It has two theaters and is used for both student productions as well as outside tours. The department that handles booking is called Intellectual Propery and Events. Other colleges may have similar department names to contact. When I was on tour with David Copperfield, we played several university theaters, usually in cities that did not have other types of theaters or performing arts centers. --Jack |
