I've been working with a new Pen Through Bill routine for a quite a few years now. There are many "pen through" routines currently out there but I wanted to do something slightly different.
I created a gaff pen using a light pen (the clear barrel lights up)- I've included an attachment. The pen turned out really great but it is not fully examinable (need to swap out for spectator to examine at end of routine). It's not that big of an issue to swap out but just want to go that extra step to make it examinable. I have various ideas to make it examinable and played around with some of them on my own. Needless to say, I haven't been successful, yet, on my own achieving this goal. So, I'm asking for some help here to make this effect top notch. If you have thoughts that would help me out or someone that I can go to for the mechanics of the gaff, please share. It would be greatly apreciated. You may be asking what makes this different than the other Pen Through effects on the market. It does stand out a lot more because of the glowing LED light. The light when on actually glows through the bill illuminating both side of the clear barrel of the pen. I use a patter that implies that the pen is actually a lazer and heals the bill when clicked on. When the pen is pulled out, the bill is back to normal. I do a Lasik surgery patter with George Washington as the patient. And in the end, he ends up healed. Anxious to hear feedback. Thanks, Chad Click here to view attached image. |

I made the original post about 2 years ago and wanted to follow-up..........
Let me start by saying, Yes, I know there are mixed reviews for the pen though effects. I personally liked the effect since I bought John Cornelius' Pen Through Anything years ago (I believe mid 90's or so). Kudos to Mr. Cornelius for introducing such a wonderful effect to the magic world (or at least to my world). For about 11 years now, I've been working on an pen through bill gimmick similar to the original but taken another step further. The reason it is taking so long is that I work on it in spurts..........come up with some improvements or modifications then put it on the back burner then bring it back out and so on and so on. Well, now it is back out and I think it is finally time to ask for some help. A little history on where I'm going here. I received a promo light pen in the mail back in 2000 or so. The one with the LED light that luminates a clear plastic barrel (the main body of the pen). So I decided to modify that pen into a penetration pen. The reason I wanted to do that was to add a "new" level to the penetration. i.e. not only does the pen penetrate the bill, but so does the light. Both sides of the bill show the plastic barrel being lit up. I loved the results, except for one thing......the pen was not examinable. I used it for years that way and had great responses. As time went on, it bugged me and bugged me on how to make it examinable. I finally engineered a way to do it. I have a couple rough prototypes (after going through hundreds of pens, yes, hundreds) that I work with now. I really like the results but now I need a means to make them more efficiently and consistently. It is a very tedious job for me to do it and am sure someone has some means to do it better. Well, I know I rambled on and on but figured that I'd share it with you to see if someone is interested in helping me tweak the design or make some modifications. I think the mechanics of the gimmick are great enabling it to be handed out immediately upon removing from the bill. Any help would greatly be appreciated. If you are interested in seeing a demo video, send me your email and I'll send it to you. Thanks! |
