Hi,
I just bought an Owen's vanishing bird cage and I was wondering how long it takes to "wear it in", if anyone could let me know I would really appreciate it. Sam |

I had mine for years and it never, what you call "wear it in". It is very well made. When it gets sloppy is the time when a new one is needed.

Thanks for the reply. After working with it for a an hour or so more (and speaking to Denny Haney) I realise that it is a completely different technique to the Abbott's cage. Thanks for the help wmhegbli.

Yes, Owen's cage is what is refered to a semi-rigid vanishing bird cage.
Remember the left hand leads the right by a fracition of a second. If you are right handed, that is. |

It depends how tight it is as to how much it will take to break it in. Some are tighter than others.
You need to sit and work it open and closed until you get it to where you want it. Richard

All the above advice is true!
They are really quite stiff when new but reach a pleasant level of looseness if you work it in as Richard suggests. It also helps to have the hand on the 'vanishing side' (briefly) form the thumb and forefinger into a circle to help channel the cage is it ...'vanishes' (along with WmHegBil's advice. Regards- JNeal

Work your cage 'til it's just right....not too hard...not too tight!
