Any suggestions on how to make your own clear plastic change bag?? Has anyone made one and how did it work?? My thoughts were to buy a Alunimum heat sealing bag machine and start from scratch. Anyone had any success with doing this?? I was wanting to make a 1 and 2 compartment force bag.
I want the audience to think I am opening a unopened clear bag. But need to know how to make the different compartments be in position to handle easily after opening the bag. I was thinking to run a pair of scissors across the top to open the bag. If I buy clear plastic sheets what would be the best size and weight of plastic to buy?? I know they already sell a clear plastic see thru force bag for about $4 but I need the effect to appear as if I am opening a unopened new bag. Thanks for any input. Wardmagic |

The force bag is built around already having a number of things in the bag to begin with in the effect.
With your idea, how would you load the "selections" in front of the audience. Also, you say you want to cut the top off a plastic bag, the defination of a bag is 3 sides closed and one side open. Most plastic bags today, come open or with a zip lock closure of some kind. Most force bags opening are not made below the opening, but matching the with the opening. With your method, try tabs. I use to adjust the size of plastic bags with one of those food storage freezer machines sold to preserve food. |

I think I have not been clear enough. A lot of toys come sealed inside a bag in the box. So the items are already in the bag. You can then open the sealed bag to present it as sealed from the factory. The loaded items are already in the bag with the other selections. You then can open the top of the bag with a pair of scissors in front of the audience. Then have the audience member select the forced item.

That's a great idea to make it seem as if you are opening the bag for the first time with a knife or scissors. I think to accomplish it, you could use a heat sealing machine to "weld" a couple of bags together, then fill them up and use one last "weld" on the top in order to seal it. Good luck with this and let us know how it went!

As to "welding" the plastic- I've made several of these with excellent results, and a very simple (and primitive) method. In my case, I used basic sandwich bags. I've used both the large, which have thicker plastic, and the small ones which are very thin. In both cases, here's what I did.
Line up your bag(s) exactly as you want them. For the first edge where you need to join the bags, clamp the bags between two pieces of wood so that you have just a tiny bit sticking out (somewhere between 1/16 and 1/32 of an inch). The part that protrudes is the edge to be welded. Now, simply run a lighter down this edge at a slow but steady rate. The plastic will only melt together as far as the clamped area, where the pieces of wood will stop it, giving you a nice edge. Once you determine the correct speed, you'll watch the plastic fuse together in front of your eyes. Do all three edges this way and you'll end up with a perfect bag that looks great from inches away. Good luck! Phil |

You can get craft paper, put your bags between two layers of craft paper and use an electric stencil cutter or a soldering iron wiht a sharp attachement.
Run the stencil cutter down the kraft paper till it burns through. the paper will keep the plastic from just melting.. and it will create a perfect seam... I used this method to make "bladders" for doing makeup FX. |
