Hey Peo,
I am not one to really do reviews. What I can tell you is there is a goldmine of information here from Roberto's Giobbi's life in magic. He is so organized and disciplined and even give tips on how to be more disciplined yourself. I am in awe of how much valuable information is in this book. This is a book I would never ever lend out as I think everyone should get their own. He gives tips on on all kinds of things to presentation, organization, to famous quotes, to little known effects from magicians like Fred Kaps...it just goes on and on and on. It's like having access to Giobbi's private files and seeing all the things he has learned over the years. He gives tips on how to read a book, how to score the effects. Categories for your own filing system. Just get this book, I am positive you will love it! Best, Sean |

Giobbi mentioned it at the beginning: it's a (beautiful bound and logical structured) NOTEBOOK - and I think that says everything (and "everything" was described by Sean Macfarlane ).
For me the best book 2010. Michael |

It's a beautiful book, but it will be a while before I can comment. I may not stick to one a day, but I'm definitely going to be reading this in small doses. From skimming it I feel that you almost need to sit and digest each piece and fill it out in your own mind. Some of the entries are quite small -- a paragraph, sometimes, or even less. If you read them all together they'd be a blur. I think you really do need to read one or two or three at a time, think about them and how they'd relate to your own magic; in other words, give them some space.

Is it all new material? and different from the all Giobi previous books (like card college series, & cc light, lighter, lughtest)?

I'm sure some of the material will reference things in the CC books, for the most part this really does have the feel of a notebook containing ideas, thoughts, musings, etc. To give you an idea, the first few days include thoughts on separating the deck at a pre-determined point, a small essay on spontaneity (and aging, actually), a cataloguing system for special decks, some suggested deck switches (I'd be surprised if these didn't include some of the ones included in his recent Genii mag series), a new presentation for an old, non-card logic puzzle, and a sucker bar bet using dice. With the book on my lap at the moment, randomly flipping through I land on: thoughts on cutting to a crimp; thoughts on Del Ray; a list of the benefits of performing magic; several entries on the Ambitious Card; two tricks involving just the use of your hands; "the ten most underestimated tricks," including names and book citations; a subtlety for a torn-and-restored effect; a vanishing pen; and thoughts on how we perceive playing cards. Hope this helps. |
