I learned this with and still use the Sterling coins. But I think the Johnson coins look nicer.
Any comments are welcomed. Thanks. |

I think the Johnson coins are too thick to be practical. Joshua and others use the very thin dollar sized Chinese Coins. Not sure how I fell about this look but...

I use the "Feng Shui" coins that Josh Jay sells with the written instructions.
They don't glide as well as I would like, but they are large, thin, and allow you to talk about attracting wealth by stringing three "Feng Shui" coins through a red ribbon (this is a true belief among enthusiasts). Great, real patter opportunity. I have heard great things about the Sterling coins, but haven't had the opportunity to see them. Isn't that what Troy uses? Sammy

I use the sterling "realistic Chinese coins" I got years ago from Ben Stone. (Missouri Shop)
Over the years I have now about 5 of them with 2 matching ['s I use them for a lot of things, but still haven't added the challenge to my routines. I do use the velvet cord (purchased in bulk on ebay) for a finger ring and rope, to Chinese coin to the ring back on my wedding ring finger. Harris

I used the ones that Joshua sold with the instructions when I saw him lecture a few years ago. This is a really strong routine, and I believe in DesTROYers there is a routine where you take 3 silver dollars and turn them into Chinese coins. This flows great into the charming Chinese challenge!

Thanks for the responses. I still am unsure as to why the coins need to be thin and silent?

I use the thin coins that Curtis Kam uses in his Beijing Coins Across. I think these are the same ones that Josh Jay sells. I think Curtis said they were from Hawaii.
The thinner coins are definitely better to work with and look better I think.

If you are ever in Manhattan, (New York) go to Chinatown, near its border with Canal Street, where the vendors are. There are a bunch of small shops selling Chinese knick knacks. Several sell the perfect replica of ancient Chinese coins - slightly larger than Josh's, which I find is great for visibility, and just as thin. Cheap, too! Two or three dollars per coin.

In fact, in most Chinese variety (or "knick knack) stores any where in North America, you will find dragon coins or Chinese charms of different sizes. They are used for fortune telling, Feng Shui, decorations, etc.. I bought mine in Montreal Chinatown a few years ago. The 37 mm. were $0.75 and the 40 mm. were $1.00. They are thin and have a square hole. They are made of a cheap metal and are very light. Not the best for manipulations ,but are good enough for some routine like the Charming Chinese Challenge.

I use the Johnson coins for the CCC.
I asked Troy to try them out when he was in the shop and he had no problem with them either. I use Dollar sized ones for the routine. |

When Joshua Jay released this in some notes years ago I used the Johnson coins for it and never had a problem.
