I was coaxed into buying a Joe Porper's Flash Restoration by a magician friend who was adamant to sell it to me. I have had it for almost two years and never once used it. After looking at this thread, I am determined to try it out.
Thanks, guys! |

Now that Marijuana is legal in some parts of the country, I would think that this would be one of the most popular tricks to do. Some spectators would start laughing and some would be freaking out. It would be interesting to act naive about their reaction. As in, "It's just a piece of paper." Then in some groups you could probably want you to do it with their paper they pull out of their pocket.
Has anyone tried this trick in public? What was their reactions? Are we missing the boat by not performing this popular trick. -------------------------------------------------------------- Dick Oslund, you don't have to smoke to do a torn and restored paper trick. I don't think you can smoke paper anyway. To come up with a presentation, I have always believed you have to get out and show the trick to get an idea of what a presentation would be like to people. Just an in honing a 1st draft to perfection, and make improvements along the way. |

Ahh man that's heavy. You learned I learned that while I was a roadie for the Doobie Brothers....paraphrased from Up in smoke, still a hilarious movie.
Here is an introduction that I've used: hey you want to see a great new trick I came up with? Pull the papers out of your pocket and say "I don't really recall what I was doing when the idea came to me" look at the paper then look back at them and say "oh wait now I remember" then go into the trick. It's a humorous opening not earth shaking funny but I always got a chuckle from it. Especially from children |

Martin Lewis developed his T&R cigarette paper during his tenure at the Magic Cellar in San Francisco. It has a beautiful four finger display, basically turning a close-up trick into a parlor effect. He also used a type of fold that allowed a very open and clean restoration. A real thing of beauty to watch.
As an additional note, John Bannon's version uses a piece of flash paper and a stick pin. Nothing to ditch. Used it for years in my strolling work. |

Jamy Ian Swiss talks about some of the different methods, including Martin's and the Leipzig version. It's in his new column, the Lyons Den.

I was luck enough to have David Ben himself choose me as the volunteer and perform this right in front of me under my nose at our magic Club in Toronto. It looked like REAL MAGIC!
