So... information is only worthwhile if it was a pain in the oz to get. Got it.
Personally, I look at Wickerpedia for an overview and if there's something in there I want to know more about... Well, would you look at that? There's a reference I can check out for myself. If the reference is crap, then I can edit the Wickerpedia accordingly. I never understood the sense in complaining about something that anyone can fix.

Wikipedia is an excellent first stop in looking for information. Because it can be edited by anyone at any time, the potential is great for errors and misleading claims at any time.
If Wikipedia is your first stop, you should be careful that it isn't your last one. John

I agree with that. I have gone to many referenced sources and found it to be somebodies wacky free webpage.
I think we have a responsibility to factcheck before jumping to conclusions. I think that's always though. Whether it's Wikipedia, NPR, or your Mom.

They help in often finding the specific sections of the sources you would need to cite all gathered under the heading of what ever topic you searched. I find that in online discussions Wikipedia is, or at least should be, a more acceptable citation, as it is directly available with the citations to the original, and you can even copy quites right off the page, complete with the citation links. Again, still being used as a stepping stone, but it is much easier o just cite Wikipedia, without limiting confrmation and searching of/for the original citations.

My dad has said to me that if something doesn't make sense, or sound right, you probably do not have all the information. I have learnt how true that can be, and how false as well. Any who, how did a thread on copyright get onto citation credibility? Oddly, it would not seem to have gone that way due to discussion on crediting sources rather than copying them so as to not appear to take credit for someone else's work.

As I said in an earlier post, I've used Wikipedia many times - what I do appreciate about it is the sources listed at the bottom. If I find good information on there, I will look into it further. Sometimes, credible information is easy to obtain. Other times, it takes a little bit more effort to find the root of it. If you open a book and find that it's the original source of something, awesome! If you have to dig a bit deeper, what's the harm in that? You never know what you might find.
Stepping stone is a great term for it, in my opinion.

I think that stealing is bad, but in this case the punishment is way extreme.
How do they think she will ever pay the fine? It's ridiculous. It's good to see the artists standing up against the greedy record labels.

As I said before on this thread. Everybody has an opinion on music downloads, but very few of them are real music lovers. It is good to read your posts, because you are a real music supporter. Musicians today make their money touring, and I spend big bucks at the box office annually.

What's funny is that everything I've ever downloaded I either already own on cd, or it's not available on cd.
Strictly from a financial perspective, I don't think I've ever cost the record companies a dime, so it would be a little silly of them to demand compensation from me.

Never said it would stop them, just said it would be silly.
