Most magic stores have a small representation of dove magic. Have you found any companies that have a wide range of products?

What type of dove magic are you looking for? There is apparatus, harnesses, dvd's etc.
You know what I make for doves in my product line. Richard

Not to say there is not a sight devoted to Dove Magic, but I have not ran across an online store devoted to just Dove Magic. Most online stores are out to make a profit, therefore sell everything they think is popular and the latest items.
A store devoted to just one one subject, would go broke very fast, so it would have to be a labor of love for the art more then making a profit from sales. Just my thoughts on your question. |

I guess I really don't know what I'm looking for. I want to browse a large selection of products hoping it will spark my imagination. Right now you have search 50+ different magic stores.

I totally understand what you are saying Ken. A good ole Magic catalog on the old days helped me as a kid. Then at the clubs (magic) you had others of your caliber to help you brainstorm, but today, it seems some clubs have really fizzled out, and hard to find others to brainstorm with and get creative. Good luck my friend with getting those creative juices flowing.

Lectures and conventions have replaced the printed catalogs we treasured. (But there is also the beginner magicians' exposures on YouTube today.)
Ken is doing what works best. ASK! Years ago I started Dove Hotline and wrote it on the Internet for dove workers. Times have changed. Frankly, dove harnesses are not even on my price lists anymore. (Thanks to you, I'll put them back on it.) They have not been dropped from inventory but only working pros tend to buy them. They know what they want. (Pros seem to never change. They still buy the same thing and seldom even change colors. The harness, pocket and black safety pins for your coat, and matching 24" silk is $22.00. The dove harnesses are made of nylon tricot so they stretch, breathe, and are machine washable. Of course they match the silk. The ones for newspapers don't have matching 24" silks.) For beginner magicians we need to invent "Pick a card" harnesses! LOL Dove magic takes a level of commitment beyond where most magicians ever get. Retailers are serving the customers they have. That seldom includes animal acts or even stage magic. Table top magic is currently a fact of life. Those seeking dove magic don't get much attention. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- Perhaps we need to have an Animal Magic clinic at our next Magicians' Flea Market (October 7-8, 2011) here at the ranch. Yes, it is free! Last time we did it on Prop Building. Would magicians come? http://magicvalleymagic.com/ http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=31&376 |

Bob Sanders is correct, it is a close-up and strolling magic world currently. There use to be some nice dove effects pop up every now and then years ago. Dove balance on dagger is one I remember. I guess the best thing to do now is to get some of the very good dove magic DVDs by the professionals. Years ago, a professional would never think of releasing his ideas or material to the magic masses.
As in the Encyclopedia of Dove Magic by the defunct Supreme Magic Co., most of the ideas in that 5 volume set is how to use standard magic props with doves. I think only Abbott's Magic still has a Dove Magic and Live Stock section in their downloadable catalogs. You may have a look at that. |

Bill has you on the right track with The Encyclopaedia of Dove Magic by Ian Adair. I think that Supreme put this five volume set out about 1970. It is priceless!
Among other things it will save you a fortune in prop purchasing mistakes. There are plenty of props that will never fit your show. Knowing how props work and how they fit your needs will put you in the fast lane to confining your search to dove props that you can actually use. Good Luck! Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
