Apart from the usual vanishing hank using a TT. What other silk effects can be used in a walk around situation that will stand up to repeat performances and are easy to reset?
Silk magic is very visual and beautiful, however mainly constrained to stage or parlour settings therefore it would be nice to have a resource and discussion about close up walk around silk effects. Any Ideas? Thanks |

You can do many different effects with a silk and finger ring, and then more with a coin or two. The silk can allow you to do the magic in the spectators hand wihtout making it seem youa re hiding anyhting.
Sympathetic Silks can be done between two tables of spectators and allow them to hold the silks. in a darkened setting you can attach a th***d with a magnet and do a lot of incredible things. Dayton's (Kotah) silk from rope can be done close up. various knot effects are in most books.

Any magic that is uses a hanky of any kind can be done with a silk hank as well.
There is a video out with some great ideas with a hanky, I think it is called 5 or 15 minutes with a hankerchief. More Naughty Silks is a booklet that has some great ideas with a silk. http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Rice's%20M......ilks.htm Here is a silk effect I use to do, it is fun and can be done as a quick, throw-a-way. http://www.silkkingmagic.com/Martineaus%20Miracle%20Silk.htm Also look at ring off Rope magic as well, as many of these effects can be done with a silk instead of rope or shoe lace. Jay's Jinking Rings is a wonderful booklet full of great ring off tricks, Ellis Ring or ordinary finger rings. http://www.magicinc.net/jaysjinkingringsbook.aspx |

I'm always ready to go by carrying a thum**** loaded with a 9" pink silk in my pocket.
At any restaurant, have anyone select any of the pink artifical sweetener packets they want, tear the end open, pour the sweetner into a cup of coffee then produce the silk from inside the torn artificial sweeterner packet that the spectator selected themself. Rididulously simple, and VERY effective. |

It's not exactly silk but I do Sash Through Arm with a spectator. A long scarf works better than a square for me. Try to get a solid color or an overall small busy pattern.

Thanks Mary and Bob for your suggestions, they are greatly appreciated.
Mary I never thought of that, sash through arm could play really well in a walk around situation. I will definitely investigate further. Bob, I have always loved Silk to Egg but never thought it was possible to do it walkaround with many repeat performances. (Because of the real egg storage and transportation issues) However, I will read the thread you supplied the links to look into this in more detail. Thanks Again Guys |

Regan,
Thank you for your support. Eggs have probably been used in magic for over 3000 years. They are still audience killers. To the lay public it is the mark of a real magician. In walk-around it even kills other magicians. Perhaps it is the only real improvement in the last fifty years in silk to egg magic. This one actually allows you to put the egg in the hands of your audience. When I came up with this, I was working high end country clubs and audience participation was an absolute requirement. (And it had to reset to be repeated.) Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
