First, I want to thank the Magic Café forum, for allowing me to register...new registrations had been suspended for awhile, as I understand. But I'm wearing the proper attire and tipped the maitre'd; so now I'm allowed to post.
I know I'm in the minority, but I'm a huge fan of Finis as a figure maker. I'm wondering if anybody has seen a Finis Talking Cane Figure. It's a cane with a vent head on the end. It sold in the Finis & Co catalog as VH83 Talking Cane for only 19.50 in the early 80s. I'm a collector of canes as well as a ventriloquist and would like to know their current value or if anyone has seen one for sale. Finis had several novelty figures he sold, including Talking hats and violins, with Phil D'Rey routines to accompany the figures. I know Dan Willinger recently purchased a Finis Parrot. Thanks Dave

Can't help with the cane, but I just want to point out that I've been using my Finis figure for over 40 years. (That's he in my avatar.) Ray Guyll did a fabulous restoration on him, but I've loved him from Day 1. Also, I got very strong from lugging him around! Bob |

I've seen pictures of Finis' canes, but I don't know what they'd be worth, I don't recall seeing one for sale.
I can relate to Finis liking to make novelty figures, I've done a few myself, including a two canes (which I don't have any more, I sold them some years ago).

I did in fact own a Finis Cane but I traded it about 5 or 6 years ago for another figure. They are very scarce and to this date I have not found another. I was not impressed with the cane as the face on the one I had was UGLY. It just didn't do anything for me and the trade I did was a big upgrade.

I'm bumping this topic up.
Forget a Finis Talking Cane...are there any other makers that have dabbled in small figure heads on top of canes? I left Conrad Hartz a msg on Facebook...I think he has done them in the past. I recently purchased a unique novelty figure from Fed Anderson and I have my eye on one of Kevin Detweiler's creations with a further customization and it has re-awaken my interest in cane heads as well. Any info appreciated. Dave http://www.facebook.com/daverobison

Joe Boley makes canes and walking sticks with a vent head on top.

I read on this forum, that Joe was in ill health several years ago. Has he recovered? His website seems a little out of date, but I will email the address on his site.

I haven't heard from Joe Boley in a couple of years, but I too heard that he had health problems. Don't know that for a fact.
The Vent Haven Museum has a few Finis canes on display, but I personally don't care for their looks (like Dan felt about the cane he owned..). If you come to the ConVENTion part of the ConVENTion package is a free bus ride and tour of the museum. The museum is about a mile from the hotel. Mark markwade@kidshowvent.com |

Razzamatazz magic in the UK do big magic wands with talking heads and moving eyes. Very well made. They can also do custom designs. I am thinking of getting a six foot staff with a druids head for my storytelling gigs. They are worth checking out.

Just to let everyone know, I got in touch with Joe Boley via Facebook. He informs me his health has improved and doing better; and has plans to be at the ConVENTion this year.
He has a new email address, but I'm reluctant to just post it without his permission, but for the people on Facebook, and who isn't, you could friend request him there or send him a message. Dave

It would be great if Joe makes it this year. He has not been since 2005 or 2006.
