I put a piece of popcorn in my thumb tip and then I'll
do kernel to popped corn effect which now thinking about it would be really good combined with Merlin!'s sandpaper thing. |

I've done this a few times. Buy a pack of Chiclets, or Trident, or the like. Put a few in the TT. Take a regular sized piece of gum, and perform the stick to Chiclets. It's nothing great, but if you build up the fact that you split it up, it's good.

I do "Cicada to Impossible Location." Load with a cicada shell and reach into someone's pocket. Shake your head and say, "Geez, they're everywhere."

Here's one for when you're out to eat. Put a little sl--- pow--- in the TT and your set. Pour in the cream from a dairy creamer. Then, as you reach for the salt, lap the TT. Sprinkle the "magic salt" on your fist and...BAM...the cream is gone!
(I know this isn't really impromptu, but I love it when it looks that way.) Here's one more. You've heard of the vanish of a lit cigarette using the TT. How about the vanish of a catsup-dipped french fry? |

Anyone heard of the effect, "Thumbtip of Death?" Looking for info on it.
Tod P.s. Linking paper-clips. Show two seperate ones with examination. Insert into fist, blow on it, the links magically link. Get ready for remark, "What the *&%!!"

Best quick TT trick I know is Patrick Page's "Instant Disappearance of a Lit Match". Killer.

Milbourne Christopher's "50 tricks with a TT", it's been around for about 60 years, has never gone out of print, probably costs about 5 bucks now, and if you read it you'll find the basic origins of a lot of the effects listed in this thread. Some of the tricks in it are meant to be done with a metal TT, but even those may be adaptable with a little thought.

I've got Gary's books on the topic and I bought his 3 DVD set as soon as it was released. And every time I watch the DVDs again, even though I know the effects now, I find myself remembering some small detail I'd neglected since the last time I watched it. It also sparks my creativity and I find myself coming up with new or personal applications to classic tricks. I am a TT nut and Gary Darwin sparked that nuttiness in me. |

Occasionally, you can find a place that actually gives a copy out with the purchase of a TT. The wide availability of the book and its affordable price makes it a good value. While it is not the favorite of my TT books, it certainly does have classic effects that, for the most part, are still applicable today. |

While a lot of later books give more developed and fleshed out routines, this little book has most of the basic ideas the later stuff built on, which, to me, is a fascinating sidelight on a tool that is still a powerful weapon in spite of being massively exposed, mainly because it is so versatile that laymen cant conceive of it being used in so many different ways.

I'm with Bendy - I was never a thumb tipper but I noted how some great performers and posters here on MC often cited effects using a TT so I bought Gary Darwin's 3 dvd set and now I see why so many people use a TT. I'm converted. These dvd's are inspirational. I still don't do much TT work YET, but I'm phasing it in.

Shoot...in addition to my TTs, I've got a little pouch that contains rubber bands, little pieces of magician's rope, silks, links of chain, mis-made bills, sponge balls...dozens of items that I can put to use with a TT. I can remember leaving the house ONCE in the last year without a TT in my pocket. It was like leaving without my wallet or keys. It drove me nuts until I got home. Now I've got one in my desk drawer at work, one in my car, one in a pocket of each one of my jackets and one in my wife's car. No matter where I go...no matter what I'm wearing...I'll have a TT!! It's a love. It's an obsession. Watch out...it's contagious!! |

Darwins DVD's on thumbtip magic are Great! I also was inspired by these. The DVD Examining the Thumbtip was also very good. If you are new to TT magic you will get the most out of this in combination with the Darwin material.

This one is fun! Show a small square of foil and a sugar packet! Gently stuff the foil into the fist and then pour in the sugar packet.
Next, slowly produce a Hershey Kiss! Women love it! I don't claim this to be my own. Don't quote me, but I think Darwin may have come up with it??? Steve

Funny thing you should mention the hershey kiss one. It is called "Conjuring up Candy." I do this everytime there is a birthday at Red Robin (only if it's a female or kid though, it's not very 'manly' in my opinion). It kills.
I also picked up 50 TRICKS WITH A TT the other day @ Denny and Lee's Magic Studio for....you guessed it, $2!!! I love it, and it's nice to just add it to my library... Steven |
