Here is the link to see pictures of Mickey Silver's Lecture and him in action at the Bellagio on Facebook.:
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/micmsilver Mickey Silver has taken coin magic to the extreme. It's so exciting to watch him in action!!!! Everyone's jaws dropped in the room that watched him perform at the lecture in Boston. Never seen anything like it. When he performed the slot machine he would swallow coins and you would swear that he ate them. I was right up close to him and I just couldn't believe it. Saw him do 10 coins, Gone! Ear to ear, ear to mouth, ear to eye and he did this move where he would pull a coin out of his cheek that was incredible. He performed Coins Across with 3 coins in his left hand and you would see and hear the coins go in his right hand and instantly they vanished. It was one of the best Coins Across I've ever seen. His retention vanish looked so real, like real magic. Everybody was just blown away by it. He would make coins appear everywhere, on people's shoulders, in their pockets, under watches and on the cap of their drinking bottles. He could make coins go through anything. He made a coin go through my stomach, my hand and glass doors. He gave us all a collectible coin with his name on it and he showed us different slights and how to rotate our hand and conceal the coin. He is a world class performer. Very approachable. He is a must see. Paul |

Rutabaga my friend your questions are interesting and familiar, they seem borne of some particular frustration. Hmmmmmm.
You could easily go to one of the many coin magic seminars posted here and see all the magic you want just the way you seemingly believe it should be done, administered, presented, packaged, explained, whatever...But you would not see a Mickey Silver. Same as if you went to one of Mickey's lectures, you would not see what you ordinarily would see at most of these magic lectures, not that they aren't super events. You also might not get all of what you want, you might not be satisfied but you will be amazed and you will learn something beyond the mundane if you're open to it. Notice how your sidebar-type questions do not diminish this man? Why? Because they have seen him beyond what seemingly frustrates the heck out of you here. Maybe you should go and see him sometime for yourself, get to know the man behind the magic...Maybe back there you might find out some of the things you want to know or that you seem to suggest should be known about and from this unique man. Other than that, how's it going man...Haven't seen you around in much lately. Hope all is well up North.

Hey, for those of you who saw it the other night, how about Mickey's "muscle pass"...two feet? three feet?
To see a difficult thing lightly handled gives the impression of the impossible.

It was good to see the Café members that went to the lecture! Don't know what to add to what has been said here already. It was so awesome to watch Mickey and his teasing us! He had me laughing and smiling so much that my face really hurt by the end of the lecture. Mickey is starting to tip his methods/mechanics. He did give practical advice on how to misdirect with a coin. The only thing he is holding back on is exactly how he gets a coin from his thumb to finger palm without any movement. A few magicians there tried to get him to reveal it, but he said that it will all be included in an upcoming book he is writing.
He talked about a project he is working on in Vegas called "Hands of Las Vegas". He is working with hotels and will select a group of magicians to have a running close-up magic show - should be performing in it in the Spring, I believe. Mickey proved in his lecture that a great performance with thoughtful misdirection will create astonishing magic just as much or more than just using knuckle-busting advanced slights. |

Hey MB, interesting thoughts from you as always. No frustration I know of in those questions though, just wondering about Mickey's presentation, as I know his style from posts here at the Café... trying to imagine that same thing in a live lecture [beyond the undoubted wonderment at the magic itself!]

Mickey's Muscle Pass:
On Mickey's Muscle Pass he has a massive callus on his hand. It looked like a big fat tumor from doing the Muscle Pass over the years. I heard a story that he was at home doing MP and the coin went ten feet high and destroyed and demolished a ceiling tile breaking it in half and the coin went in the attic and stuck to the roof. Then another time when he did the MP, the spectator was leaning over his hand and the coin sprang up and broke the guy's nose and almost knocked him out. Mickey's new way of doing the MP is with two hands and two coins Juggling the coins back and forth. The kids love it! Just kidding.. Actually, Mickey has never done an MP in his life, but he has a way of simulating it that is a 100% convincing. You can ask anyone who has attended his lecture. Mickey will have one coin in his right hand throw the coin up in the air and you have to guess which hand it's in, right or left.... Yet, when he opens his left hand, it's there!!!!! This looks cool and impossible. He showed us this other trick where he puts a coin in his hand and the coin just explodes into pieces. The trick was the bomb. Another effect Mickey does is putting a coin in his hand and he has three different coins on the table and the coin in his hand will change into whatever coin you pick on the table. Just unbelievable. He does a hilarious thing with a woman's earrings, something very different. A great walk around effect. He also shows us the correct way to flip someone the middle finger....People were laughing like hell. Paul |
