What is a good venue to set up a table and do magic preferably indoors. I would like to try to make tips too. If I have to rent out a booth or a space, I'd be willing to do that too. I'm just stuck on where I can do a place indoors. I'm around the Chicago area in the USA

No clue.
have you tried busking in bars? a tough room, and you'll be asked to leave often, but if you are in good with a few bars, and they know you're not a scoundrel, you might just be able to pull it off. also, as far as renting a booth goes, learn to pitch Svengali decks at your local flea markets, chicago has dozens (if not hundreds) of them!

It's a long shot but you could try the shopping malls.
They probably wouldn't let you hat the crowd but maybe they would pay for holiday entertainment.

We've got skyways between our buildings in the downtown. In the winter, they become the enclosed, climate controlled sidewalks for the downtown masses. I know of a few spots where buskers set up and watch the world go by. It's tight, and they don't get much, if any, of a crowd, but it's a place indoors. Money gets tossed into open guitar cases as the people wisk by. They rarely stand around watching and interacting, so not the best crowd for a magic show. I know of one musician that has been in more or less the same spot during the lunch hours for around 20 years (or at least is seems like it). I've never heard of anyone being hassled by the building owners or the cops about using these public spaces for performing.
I don't remember any skyways in Chicago, but if there are, that would be my suggestion as a place to consider. |
