Return to the 36th Chamber was frickin' sweet too.
I just re-watched that and it occurred to me how close the original Karate Kid was to this story. Bully beats up kid, kid learns martial arts without realizing he's learning martial arts, kid learns valuable life lesson and shows mercy while redeeming self.

Not all are Kung Fu strictly speaking, and in no particular order...
1. Enter The Dragon (of course) 2. Sword of Doom (absolutely gorgeous b&w cinematography and a great Toshiro Mifune cameo) 3. The Big Brawl (great student/master training sequences) 4. Fists of Fury 5. The Seven Samurai 6. Yojimbo 7. Sanjuro 8. House of Flying Daggers 9. Drunken Master 10. Last of the Mohicans (okay, not really in the genre, but the fighting sequences choreographed for the native American fight scenes rock) |

Seven Samurai is a favorite of mine. If I had to pick a Japanese favorite in that genre I would probably have to go with Zatoichi.
So, after I started this thread I went to Wal-Mart and 5 Deadly Venoms, 8 Diagram Pole Fighter, and a bunch of others. I picked up 8 Diagram Pole Fighter and the quality of this copy is just amazing. I guess this company 'Dragon Dynasty' has taken over Celestial or something and is continuing to restore all of these great martial arts movies, especially the old Shaw Brothers classics. Here's their website- http://dragondynasty.com/

I love Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Made me want to visit Wu Tang (Wudan) Mountain.
I think that one and Hero are two of the most beautiful martial arts epics ever.

Not a Kung Fu Movie but...
The Last Samurai. Ken Watanabe was really good in that. Tom Cruise was not bad. Great depiction of Martial Arts without the need for wire-fu.

I like a lot about the Last Samurai. The fight when Cruise was in the suit I remember being good.
It was kind of "Dances With Wolves" in Japan though.

I saw one once on television. I didn't catch the title but it involved a village that was being terrorized by a bully, a local village boy offers to go to the temple and learn kung-fu so he can fight back. He has to sneak in since he's not a priest and gets caught almost immediately. The head priest says that as his punishment, he has to rebuild the scaffolding around the monestary. While working, he observes the priests working out and starts mimicking their movements to strap the pieces of the scaffolding together. At the end, they throw him out and he goes back to the village distraught that he was unable to learn kung-fu. When he gets back, in arguing with a friend, he learns that all the moves from the scaffolding experience have taught him his own version of kung-fu which he uses to take out the bad guys.
As I said, never learned the name, but it was fun to watch.

Quentin Tarratino's "The Iron Monkey" was an awesome kung fu movie.

Iron Monkey rocked. Amazing how well the little girl was able to play young Wong Fei Hung. I didn't even know it was a girl until I watched the special features.
And of course Donnie Yen is always amazing. Plus, I love any movie with "umbrella kung fu." I don't know why, there's just something about fighting with an umbrella that has an odd mixture of class and eccentricity.

That part in "Circle of Iron" with the oil tub still gives me nightmares.
"Heroes Two." Not only a cool movie with charismatic leads and great action, but a historically interesting storyline to boot.
