I've been thinking about ordering Just In Case, and I recently downloaded the video to see what it looks like. Anyone here own this effect, and if so is it worth the money? Also how is the reaction from the spectators?
BTW. If you don't know what Just In Case is, you show a little black briefcase, open it up and pull out 2 golf balls or something of that nature, the playing card that was lost from the deck, and your business card.

Sounds like a clever premise for the business card briefcase. Also sounds like it's affect on your audience will be in direct proportion to your entertainment skills. Such is typical of peculiar objects that do peculiar things. It is up to us to create the context and meaning of such goings on.
Just a thought, one could produce their sponge balls from an ungimmicked briefcase as an opener. It could be routined to work like a purse frame. Your whole act could come from and return to it Thanks for the heads up on Just In Case, Magicman. Tom Cutts |

We carry Just in Case at the magic shop I work in. The only problem I have with the effect is "purpose". What do you do with the balls once they're out? Bounce them?!!
To me, the whole affair is rather pointless. |

I saw the video, and thought it was one of the more obvious tricks I’d seen in awhile. I guess it’s possible the guy was just handling it badly, but if that’s how it’s supposed to look, I couldn’t imagine it fooling anyone. Plus, the video I saw only involved the balls, no cards. If you also use it as a card revelation, then the balls would make it pretty obvious how the card got in there too. IMHO you’d be better off with a good card-to-wallet -- maybe ending up with your business card paper clipped to their signed card?
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

The idea was suggested to me long before it was on the market. The little briefcases I also saw sold at Staples.
You could do a three ball routine, there are all kinds of routines you could do. Just use your imagination if you like the production idea. |

Just an Idea but you could use it to hold a bounce/ no bounce ball. I have one and it is a fun gimmick but not a stunner.

Quinn, since you mentioned a card revelation and assumed things are loaded into the case, you are barking up the wrong tree. Nothing is loaded into the case, it is already in there!
This is a close up version of a stand up effect done with a full size briefcase and basketballs. Paul. |

Really? I stand corrected in that case. (Ooh, didn't mean to pun there, sorry.) The effect I saw must have been a similar theme but with a different handling/method, so disregard my earlier post; I'm sure this version is great! Go buy it now!

It's a good prop, I have it.
But it is just a magic prop, the rest is up to your imagination. Not a bad investment. But then again, not a must have! It's a nice to have item.

The problem I found with the "Just in Case" is that the reset time cannot be done in front of the spectator, because this is when the heat is on, and they want to examine.
2 golf balls? I think you are going to weaken the gimmiked part of the case after a couple of shows. Cheers |

I like it! I don't use as a stand along trick but as a buffer from one trick into another. I place all items needed for "Dynomite" in it & place it to the side. When I am ready I bring it out....casually take the items out, then lay "In case" gimmick side down on the table next to items removed. It works great for me. I got a JIC about 2 weeks ago.
I agree with David Weltzman - the gimmicked part of the case is not going to survive long if you use 2 golf balls. And it is just a "utility prop" - I know I can work it in to my act somewhere for some "comic relief" - but it's not going to work as a stand-alone illusion. Daytona Magic has a rubber-chiken keychain that is just screaming to go in the Just-in Case - along with a golf ball or maybe some streamers or a billiard ball. JIC has "potential" written all over it. |

Hi Troops,
I use "Just in Case" as a prop to join two effects. I place my items for "Dynomite" into the case. After doing the previouse trick, I then bring it out the case explaining this next item needs special care in transporting it. I open the case, remove the props, close the case, & lay it down next to the bigger props. I might say, "I sure know how to pack a miniture suit case"....pause... then go into dynomite. I have had GREAT results with it! Frank Thomas

We have Just In Case at the magic store that I work at also. I have looked at this item, so that I can demonstrate it to an interested customer. I think that the concept is okay, I was thinking about buying it, and bringing out my crocheted (spelling?) balls for my cups and balls routine out of it, just as a side effect, don't call attention to it though, if they notice, they notice, if not then they don't, I tried it in the store once, and people like went back to it at the end, and said wait how in the hell, lol!!!!

I don't like it. The method is rather obvious when you think about it, it cannot be done surrounded either. Just my opinion.

I have seen it used in the following context: Mentioning that you want to give the spectator, potential client, etc. a business card, JIC was pulled out and a golf ball produced with the magician's logo on it. ("you can have a round card") Then a regular business card is then given out ("but here is a regular card as well").
