Actually John, that is not what I said, but what the heck.
Yep, when they do come in with a good offer (and they do) I have worked for P&H as have many others on the Café have. Some who admit to doing so, and some who will not admit to it. (P.S. Actually if you read this very thread you will find others who have worked for P&H at THEIR fees.) As YOU know there are many other "agents" out there (even in Montreal) that take substantial cuts not just P&H. Blair

Quote: To assume that you would have to think that P & H are on the ball and keep track of such things. I don’t think they take very good notes about who does a good job and who does not. I believe they will hire anyone who is willing to work for what they are offering.

And the next time they called there was no mention of it and they offered me the same low rate. Every time they would call, in order to get a little more than average, I have to sell myself all over again. They don’t reward a good performers, they just want to fill the spot. Likewise, I had a major problem with a booking in which THEY screwed up the details. I sent them a long email asking for at least half of the fee. I never heard back from them. Not even an apology. A few months later I got a call from them asking me to fill a gig!!! They had no idea who I was and that they had a problem with me. They just wanted to fill the spot. And they continue to call every now and then. So, I believe that even if you did send in a resignation letter they would pay it no mind. I hope I’m not being too critical of this company, but I do feel the need to let my fellow magicians know what you’re in for when dealing with them. For a newbie they are terrific! You’ve got to get your feet wet somewhere so go for it. Frankly, early in my career I did appreciate their calls, even if I was treated like a nobody, just a body to fill a need.

I do some work for Phillip and Henry part time. When I get a call the first words out of my mouth are: "where is the job?" before I commit to a thing. They will try To send you to TIMBUKTU for "Bupkis" money if you are stupid enough to let them.
Recently they wanted me to travel 5 hours to do a 40 min birthday party show. Of course that makes a 10 hour round trip. ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????? That is just one of many unreasonable requests. Someone else said that don't care about their people. I really don't think They do. The best thing that PHILLIP AND HENRY does is to try and take advantage of their people. So sad. |
