Folks-
I keep purchasing decks of cards in various brands (one was a Tally Ho!) that arrive and are slightly "bowed" so you get an irritating "snap" when pushing the deck from the middle. I get this now with a number of deck brands and it drives me nuts! - especially when trying to put together a nice clean ID or BW with R&S. I have tried placing the deck on a hard flat surface but I'm not getting good results - I am also unsure if when trying to unbow them should I keep a certain part of the deck facing up towards the heavy object doing the hopeful flattening? I live in Phoenix and I know that a warm vehicle, and temps are probably the culprit - but many of the bowed decks I am getting now are arriving to me in that annoying condition. Any thoughts or advice would be so welcome! Thanks as always. BRETT

Dai Vernon once told to turn half of your deck face up, half face down. Then faro shuffle once ( one card face up, one card face down,...) place the deck in his box this way PLUS a few more cards to be sure the deck is tight in the box. Now comes the strange part,... place your deck in the fridge's vegetables drawer (desing with a good air flow to preserve the vegetables) for two or three days. It works well for one of my friends once. His deck lost the bizzare twist it had.

COOL! Thanks - I may grab a carrot or two in the vegie drawer during the operation!

I can't find it right now but there's an extensive thread on this somewhere on the Café. A lot of people had great things to say about the fridge idea...

I'm happy to have helped you, SAYSOLD1! It's funny to think that even if I'm here in my province of Quebec, I can help someone far away. If you're happy then me too!
Take care! |

A porper card clip will also help to keep them from warping in general use.

I have had great success putting bowed/warped cards in a plastic freezer bag, removing the air from the bag and freezing the deck overnight.
I have no idea why this works.
