Of course, we're all cheering for the real Magnus
I'm watching at TWIC Thanks for the reminder. John

Nosher and Magnus down for the count. Luke McShane very happy in post game analysis.

I'll have to wait for some analysis. At first glance, the Carlsen-McShane game makes no sense at all to me.

I know what you mean. A couple of very tricky moves by McShane. It made sense watching Luke and Magnus explaining it...sort of

Civilised : Nigel Short and Luke McShane drinking red wine and trading quips during their post game press conference - don't see that every day. Probably a direct result of playing the dragon - headache inducing tactics according to Nigel. No Rxc3s, but lots of black knight sacs on b2. McShane's off to a flyer.

Were you able to see the games, Nosher? TWIC was down for me all day.

Nakamura celebrated his 23rd birthday with a win over Kramnik--not bad at all!

Magnus,
Yep. I watch them on Playchess and the London Classic site (link in first post). Nice birthday present Nakamura gave himself, although something must have gone badly wrong for Kramnik to drop a piece like that so early. Didn't look like any sort of sac.

Incredibly, despite losing a couple of games, Carlsen wins the 7 round tournament. 3-1-0 scoring helped of course - still.
Incredible escape in his game with Kramnik yesterday. Very rare to see Vlad not win a won game. Not such a good tourney for Nigel Short, but at least he was the winner in post game commentary by a long way.

I am still dumbfounded by yesterday's escape. Nobody is supposed to escape when Vlad the Impaler has an edge in the endgame.
And Anand continues to find deep and beautiful ideas on a regular basis. John

Or Pompeius Magnus when he was First Man in Rome?
