Hello, I am reading the excellent "Absolute Magic" by Derren Brown and was wondering if any of you guys possess the Terry Lunceford video in wich he performs the floating ring routine and could share your thoughts about it?
Bye.

So would I. I ordered this a year ago from Terry and am still waiting on the video.

I don't own the video, but I've seen it. He floats a ring in the usual manner, he has an interesting way to show no thread above/below, no thread left/right, no thread in front/behind.
I'm not a fan of levitating effects though. Whats the point of floating something when the spectator knows it must be held by thread? As Michael Close once said, do a levitation effect then ask people how they think it was done, and then prepare to be disappointed. Animating something - very different. What does Derren say about it? |

I will disagree in a way here. I think Lunceford has structured a great routine. One in which he almost outrightly acknowledges the spectators assumptions about thread, and then deletes it.
His method for showing no thread is wonderfull. And the fact that he actually involves the spectator with the levitation is wonderfull. The float is NOT in the usual manner, the ring lays horizontally, it does not hang vertically. Experimenting with this routine, I was able to do two things. One: make it seem as if the ring was truly suspended after I remove my hand. Imagine a ring laying on your hand, you lower your hand and the ring simply does not move in space. Two: The spectator may remove the ring from the hookup themselves. Making it seem as if they simply plucked from the air. I have the video, and have seen the levitation live, and must say it is the best ring levitaton out there. Maybe not practical, but for a suspension effect, this is a killer. |

Brown incorporates this stunt in a very strong mentalism/magic experience routine that takes the spectator so far away that the thread isn't even suspected.

It's difficult to explain here in a few words. I suggest you get a copy of Absolute Magic by Derren and read it. Everything is in it with full details and fine English.

If no, any idea how to get this video? Thanks ;-) |

At least I know that I wasn't the only one to sense a pattern of ordering from his site and things mysteriously getting lost in the mail

I ordered this after reading Derren Brown's description.
A few years ago I ordered from Terry, I forget exactly when now. Never received. I messaged him multiple times and even spoke with Terry on the phone. He always assured me he would get it right to me. I'm still hoping I'll receive it some day from Terry Lunceford, swindler of swindlers. |

If you're tired of waiting for Terry and you want this now, I have it in VHS in the original case.

I have Terrys' floating finger ring video in VHS. Got it from him at a lecture he did here in CT back in the early 90's.
Just a heads up. Most of the video is about his Linking Rings routine. Not a bad video over all. |

I'd need a VHS player.
How much for it? ( Even though I've already paid Terry) |

Cliff G and Zombie.....you guys are great and helpful.
That is why the Café is the best. Even better floating ring is: (in my opinion) DVD: http://www.williamsmagic.com/index.php?m......id=12130 Reel: http://www.williamsmagic.com/index.php?m......id=13858 If your a worker you will want to get these. And as some of you know williams Magic Shop has great customer service. And is also 10 minutes from my house in Tucson AZ.
