He would then memorize these, blindfold himself, ask for a starting square, and then proceed to do a knight's tour by calling out the contents of the appropriate square! You'd hear things like, "OK, from there, move to Harrison Ford..." Oh, and if you'd like to practice the Knight's Tour I teach (thanks for the plug, bevbevvybev!) without being online, I have an iPhone/iPod Touch version avai......99 cents. |

Downloaded! Thanks for bringing this thread up here.
For the iphone app: it would be great to have the squares numbered. Regards, Martin |

You need just mnemotechny, why a computer program? A good Mentalist use his brain not a computer!!!!

Mnemonics, another word for "mnemotechny", is much harder than having a system, but I agree that no puter program is needed.

Even when using mnemonics, it is useful to have a practice tool.

Absolutely Michael! And one of the reasons I made this thread to begin with. I think we are talking about the other thing that was posted, which we see as having little to no value?
Cheers.

I agree that the program is fun to practice for doing the tour for real. The thing is that, as a mentalism demonstration, the tour is usually done blindfolded with ones back to the board. That's why every stage mentalist I have known who does the KT as a performance piece uses straight memory.
The mnemonics are not at all difficult and allow the performer to work at a rapid pace - something you can't do if you have to work your way through an algorithm. (which, btw, would be extrememly difficult to do if you were doing the KT at the same time you were performing on or two other memory stunts as has been suggested in this thread.) Mastery of mnmemonics is one of the fundamental tools of mentalism. Good thoughts, Bob |

As someone that does the Knights Tour every other week in my shows, let me give you some
tips how to practice. Hal Weaver has a great story for the A to H and 1 to 8 display, it is very easy to remember and very easy to use. It is very clever and is based on Harry Lorrine idea. Most of the time I will use the 1-64 numbers and not the A to H system becuse It is easier for your audience to fllow and easier for the person who is pusshing the numbers to find on the board. It is very easy to remember the 64 numbers string. I don't use any system for that. I just learned the string by heart. I spent one week to learn 8 numbers every day, did some connections I have a small crib in my wallet and look at it in my free time and before a show You will see it is much better then using any special memory system. Now you start practicing with a computer or any piece of paper and you start doing it again and again It is important only in the begining because in a real show you are going to face away from the screen or from the board. yOU NEVER DO IT IN REAL SHOWS FACING THE BOARD OR THE SCREEN !!!!!!!!! So phase 2 of the practice is to ask your wife or your friend to work with you with a board or a screen. It is important to learn how some moves look on the board when you still on phase 1 So you can describe in some points what you are going to do before you do it. For example: when I stand on 20 I say " I think I need to go now in a diamond shape so lets move to 26 then to 36 and then to 30. Or when I am on 53 I say: lets go up to 43 and the to 33 It shows the audience that you calculate moves on the spot and you know what you are doing. I will write some more tips later Hope it helps for the real people who realy want to do it for real people Lior

Few more tips
I don't use a blindfold during the Knight's Tour but I make sure I don't look at the screen And the audience see that I don't look. ( I have a very long routine with a blindfold at the end of my act) don't let your audience know that you finish where you started. In my program every square vanish from the board after the spectator who oprate the computer press on that square, so when I arrive to the last numberd square on the board, nobody remember that it is close to the square we started with. I also like to add an extra kicker or another climex after finishing the board: When the squares vanish from the board you can see behinde them some random letters on the back. After I finish the board and gett the appluse for the effect, I pause and ask the audience if they know what those random letters mean? Pressing on the screen one more time will rearrange the letters Into the company slogan, the company message or the name of the CEO or the name Of the person who celbrate his birthday. Because I can write in advance what I want before the show, I also used to do some Other revilations for other effects : a revilation of a word or a crad that someone choose in another routine and I promissed the audience to find later Lior

Can anyone do the blindfold tour with a randomly selected start AND end square? That would impress me.

The free web-based Knights Tour JavaScript practice tools on my MindMagician site and on Scott Cram's Grey Matters site are clear of any viruses, adware or spyware, and they require no downloads.

The above post by Mike is a worthy tool and one worth considering, I'm just offering other options if you don't want to be online and if you want to actually perform on a big screen for free.
Cheers.

Scott Cram and Michael Daniels both have great websites and great program for the Knight Tour Quiz.
(Scott also gave a very good review for my program when it was published some years ago) The last program that Jdmagi367c is trying to "promote" is very bad. 1) It doesn't have the numbers on the squares and doesn't have the A to H and 1 to 8 on the side of the board. 2) It also can not be shown on a full screen and looks like a game. I don't see who is going to do it in a stage show with that small and stupid screen. How do you tell them where to move if nothing is written on the squares???? connecting a projector to a laptop wont help in anyway because the program is not in full screen!!!! another bad thing with that program is that it put numbers on every square you press. at the end it will show that you finish one step from where you started. This program is just to play with yourself at home alone. but it is free... you can use many programs to practice, you can use a white board to practice. But when you go to show the Tour to an audience you will need something else. You stand and the screen is behinde you. You never look at the screen and you just call out the square numbers the spectator need to click on. I do the Knight's Tour in my shows. Profssional mentalists knows how the board or the screen has too look like. Armchair mentalists don't know . Lior

The $10,000 price tag, was that to keep it out of the hands of the just curious? What made you lower the price? I bet the ones that paid the 10 grand wish they had waited a bit? The bonus sounds interesting, a no memory way of performing it. Could be a keeper. Any reviews?
Thanks.
