I love this. Eventually performed it for the jaded wife this afternoon and she really liked it. I am working on an alternative presentation to the one handed magician and would welcome other routine suggestions. If I am going to carry an extra 'one trick' deck with me then the outcome has to be worth it.

Yes, My point is that I prefer to use the card case it came in. Just as in the Phil trick, I see no reason to put them in a Bicycle Card case. If it is questioned about the cards, you can say that you picked them up at a dollar store as you knew you would be writing on them (Phil Deck).
As far as the Phoenix Deck, I agree, it should be used as a stand alone or if in a set use it in conjuction with an ungaffed Phoenix Deck. My point is that it just seems weird to me when someone pulls a different brand of deck out of a Bicycle case. I actually witnessed a restaurant magician pull a red back deck out of a blue Bicycle case. Even if the deck was not gaffed, people might assume that he is not using the deck that came in that case for a reason, and assume that is where the trickery is. |

Give Google a try and type in "Bicycle magic" compared with "Phoenix magic". The results for Bicycle is ten times higher!!! So do you want to stay away from Bicycle now? You run while you are not chased. A street magician in Las Vegas is using a Phoenix Deck with one Bicycle Double Backer on top for a gag at the beginning. He NEVER was asked about the different backs. Never. Ever. And he hands out the deck every single day, every single performance. Regarding Phil Decks and other non-Bicycle decks: The faces are different and that is what lay people are looking at. The backs are totally uninteresting anyway, as there are more shops out there then Walmart who carry Bicycle brands. The faces of Phoenix are similar to Bicycle decks (with an extra hidden secret).

IIRC, Christian once mentioned that the Phoenix DD PDF ebook would continually have content added as he received more ideas for using the DD. Doesn’t appear to have changed any since it was first made available however.
Any chance of a revised DD ebook Christian? Thanks! Jim |

I have been using it as is and have never had it questioned. When I have to switch to a bike deck I just make sure I use the same color as my GS deck. I actually use my GS deck with Shawn Farquhar's Tagged. I have one of the GS cards in the Tagged position with the others in different places. If they happen to select the one that is attached to the tag it adds a double whammy. I can also make most of my gaffs out of phoenix cards as well. For example Double Back is great for that and so is Mark Mason's version of Tag. Then just do my regular AC routine and done with the card tricks, except for Bannon's Royal Scam. Then onto coins and some mentalism.

I have seen the Parlour sized cards and they are quite nice.
I'm surprised someone didn't think of this years ago. |
