I know almost any website can be viewed on a mobile device, but does anyone have a website built specifically for mobile devices? (how about scripting to detect/redirect a mobile device?) I'm in the process of making mine better, and thought I'd see what others had done.
My mobile site is posted on a subdomain, and is very, very simple! I do have a link to picture and video, but the menus and background are very simple. Thanks for sharing! I'm sure a few of the web guys will have some valuable input! |

Nope, I didn't forget, it's not finished yet! I took it down several weeks ago, and have been trying to make it better and update it. I won't upload it for a few more days or until it's finished and tested.

Ah, I am much newer at having a mobile-friendly site. I don't have one. I mean I didn't design it with mobile in mind, and in fact don't know what I'd do for that. I just have a basic, mostly text (only 3 small graphics) and just a few pages. The only thing I did as far as layout was to try to make it so that each web page prints on a single 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper.
I should note that my marketing in pretty local and target specific. I use mostly mail and the web site is more like a brochure or f.a.q. type of thing. Success to you. |

My website is mobile friendly.
Basically the key thing to remember is NO FLASH! But it also means no annoying music, animated Gifs, scrolling mouse cursors or any of that nonsense. Keep the background gif simple (e.g. 5 pixels square repeated) and don't have any images on your site that are not in gif or jpeg format. Make all the text large and in one of the 5 web-friendly fonts. If you don't know what those are, then your not going to have any luck with everything else I just said. You'll also want to stick with table formatting and if possible, use a basic template as they are designed for fast loading and screen adaptable (zoom-in) on mobile devises, auto sizing for the screen they are being displayed on. Don't be tempted to use some fancy program like Dream-weaver and build an completely original designed website because the images you place in certain locations will not be locked and when displayed on the phone, will shift and most likely cover text. Basically, stick with frames and tables and you'll be fine. Look at my website and backward engineer it. That should give you a starting point but it sounds like you have a basic understanding at least so I reckon you'll be fine. I use Frontpage 2003. I know there are better ones out there, and more modern ones. I've used some of them and always gone back to that program. It never lets me down and I can find what I want fairly easily. All these other programs seem to rename buttons just to annoy the users and for that reason, I never got along with them. Steve |

Yup, tried it. Last Summer we were getting a few calls from website viewed on mobile devices so I did a "click here" for mobile devices button which led to a plain Arial Font black on white information site.
Can't say it made a scrap of difference myself. I believe most of our views are made by people on laptops at present. Some of the search terms people key in have us splitting our sides with laughter at times. Main thing is the phone is ringing! Tony |
