Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |

No, Shermer didn't do this "unscientifically." He attempted to cheat. He committed fraud. He showed he was willing to do ANYTHING, no matter how much he lied and cheated, in order to defend his point of view. That's not being "unscientific." That's outright fraud. Period. Shermer has shown himself for what he really is and anybody who listens to anything he says does so understanding that Shermer is a liar, a cheater, and a fraud. Resepctfully, asses are very nice animals until you try to have them do something they don't want to do. Then they'll resist and kick and do anything to avoid doing something that they don't believe in. That's exactly what Shermer did. The show was part of a series hosted by Shermer. For Randi and Shermer, skepticism is a business. They run it like one, promote the product (rational thought?), take on the competition (psychics) and make some good coin. That's all it is. They create product for a niche market (skeptic fan boys) that laps it up, but can never broaden their market. Never have, never will. Randi has been running around taking money for the foundation, putting on conferences and such to preach to the choir. They're just the polar opposite of the 'mystical community'. The only problem is that the skeptic business needs to dump on other guys to make their product. Their whole schtick is disproving something. WIthout constant harping on somebody else's stuff they got not a lot to offer. Shermers latest book on investing - why bother? Nothing new. Just a repackage of investing advice with skeptic/psychology gloss.
