Hey everyone,
I just start to read the book and then I am working seconds, bottoms and false shuffles on table. At the same time, I watched Martin Nash's DVD and learned "Soft shuffle". Here are my questions: 1. Martin Nash said that it's the best way to keep your cards in good shape with the open shuffle, and you should keep doing it without mistakes. Is everyone doing that shuffle normally? 2. Push Through shuffle --- when the packs are pushed together and while it is "through", I should strip out the pack immedately or squre the cards first, THEN strip the pack out? I asked Ben Train about this when I met him in magic shop, but I TOTALLY forgot already =( Any good source for the push-through shuffle? 3. I remember that in Expert at the Card Table, Erdnase said that holding the cards at the end or holding cards very near DURING the table riffle shuffle does not matter at all (I will need to double check again, it's almost 4am right now). Then I just learn sth called open shuffle. Do these gripping really not that matter?? (Since I see a lot of people do the table riffle shuffle with hands very close together, so like I am confused........) Sorry for asking so many questions, but I really want to get into gambling materials. |

1. Don't know it.
2. Square it so it appears totally shuffled. 3. Do what works best and looks natural. |

You might want to check out Jason England's Foundations 1 and 2. Well worth the money if your serious about this kind of card handling.
Good Luck. Tim

Arthur- put down Erdnase bud. It's not a great starting source for anything BUT an Erdnase-style of card work.
What you want is psudo-gambling material. You want Darwin Ortiz- he friggen rocks. I'll see you at the store tomorrow and I'll be happy to answer any questions (if I happen to know the answer...)! Ben

Here are a few suggestions - If you like Erdnase - Keep reading it. If you want to do some gambling magic card effects - I would suggest starting with Harry Lorayne. Close up card magic the Lorayne Poker deal and Personal secrets the magician vs the gambler.
Back when I worked in the old Bishop's magic shop. One of the things I observed was when people or students get interested in magic - or gambling magic. They want to learn it fast - they seem to take on to much to soon. In my opinion it is better to learn the second deal well - before moving on to the bottom deal. I would suggest that False cuts are more useful to the student at this early stage then a push through shuffle. Magicians may judge a student on how many "hard moves" they can do. But an audience will judge the magician on how much entertainment value they are when they do a card effect. Another great book is Jack Merlin and a pack of cards and the card magic of LePaul. I hope this helps Just a few thoughts and opinion.
