Sure. An RFID tag embedded in every card would be allow you to read any card electronically. I would imagine that it is going to be years before magicians would be able to use this technology but you can certainly bet that it will be coming.
In case you're wondering. An RFID tag is a small electronic tag that can transmit an RF signal a very short distance. The primary purpose is for supply chain management (warehousing, inventory, etc.). Sounds like the RFID tags have gotten very, very tiny. One of the many applications that I had read about was every food item in a grocery store is tagged. An entire shopping cart could be scanned and totaled at check-out in a blink of an eye. Certainly lots of magic applications if you think about it. Personally, there are so many ways of producing miracles without such technology. Until the price is becomes really low, I can't see RFID being used much in magic. Interesting article though! Thanks

Since you wouldn't want to change batteries in every card, I assume this is passive RFID. That means the range is effectively touch. You would need to build a receiver into a table top, as he did for his poker table.
Then, you could know what any card placed down on the table (over the receiver) was. But there are lots cheaper ways to know that. In the end, to me, this seems to cross that "techno-magic" line where the effect is more technology demonstration then astounding magic. I think its a line we need to be very wary of or risk making ourselves obsolete, in the same way we need to be wary of the use of editing or camera tricks.
It is always darkest just before you are eaten by a grue.

I am talking to the guy who is selling this table and may purchase his product.....I just heard about it last week.
Some immediate problems have to do with the cards....you must use his cards and they do not look like another other playing cards. There may also be an issue if more than 1 or 2 cards are over the antenna in front of each player. (ie. "cross talk" between the 2 RFID chips can confuse the software.

If you're any good at splitting cards you could pull the RFID chips out of his deck and put them into any deck you want. It would take a lot of work though...

It's not that easy....RFID antennas tend to be fragile and his cards are plastic cards....so, I doubt that you can split them. I assume the chip and antenna are laminated in the card.

Or you could work on your technique and your showmanship, perish the thought. If that doesn't float your boat, you could use marked cards, perish that thought too.
RFID sounds better for non-card stage work, mostly mentalism, where it already has found its way. Only magicians with excellent technique and showmanship can afford the products currently on the market, which is a good thing.

I could just picture the magician using this with extremely thick sunglasses with wires hanging out all over the place that look like they were derived from a 70's/80's scifi flick trying to convince everyone that it's a normal deck of playing cards as the jumbotron behind him tells what card everyone has a few seconds before he does!
