Bob Elliott's "Citation Silver" has been one of my favorites for a long time. And I was never happy with the 'at the waist' versions. MB's Jump Mandu is eye-poppingly visual, fun to perform, and just plain fun to say!

I not a fan of fast pace magic in general....it generally leads to confusion and "confusion is not magic". However, the magic in JumpMandu is so and easy to follow that the fast pace just make it all seem that much more impossible.

Man, this is killing on the international scene here in Bermuda. I can't walk through our hotel without people pointing at me behind this.
Wes you're right, people follow it easy enough but just can't believe what they're seeing. A bit of a fast pace in spots but no sudden moves, just magic.

Man, appreciate the kind words E.
I like to bring out doable/affordable magic for folks...And if in my simple ways I've encouraged anyone to take part in this grand pursuit of coin magic, well that is to have succeeded. Happy about that and the great response to JumpMandu...Thank you. But WOW!...I am yet again humbled and know somewhere up there that champions & heros like Ralph Waldo Emerson and Cyrano de Bergerac are happy with me and what I have done for others. That's the greatest magic of all.

I love the routine and effects. Unfortunately for me, the Tenkai Pinch is my Achilles Heel. I've sent more coins scattering across the floor with that than learning the CP or even a coin roll!
Thank you. Jim |

Jim,
There is a way around this. I sent you a PM.

I've only just gotten a look at this, and it really is a lovely routine.
For anyone just getting into magic, this one dazzling little routine covers a wide variety of subtle, practical moves...really enough to keep one learning and developing for a long, long while. It's a mini course in transpositional magic. MB takes a time worn and often belittled, simple coin device, and breathes new life into it. A copper coin and silver coin are shown innocently on both sides, the hands demonstrated otherwise empty without calling attention to this fact. Then, all hell seems to break out as these two mundane items seem to switch places at will, right in the open, between two hands. Not once, not twice, but seemingly whenever desired and without covering or odd looking moves, and with different entertaining handlings. It never seems redundant, and the fact that there is just one copper and one silver makes it easy enough to follow along. though it's zippy. The routine's explanation has little things, little intimate tips that I found extremely useful, even as an "older" and supposedly wiser worker. Stuff I will investigate, and use. An especially clever Tenkai move utterly fooled me. All this is based around MB's beautiful in your face Crimp Change, which is done as nice as I've seen any bare handed transposition effect. It's a classic move, brought boldly forward from something done discreetly in the past, to right in your face. MB keeps it all quick paced and interesting. He has an easy going style, and this translates well into someone who takes the time to explain every nuance of what he is doing, so you can do it too! Marion is grounded in the basics. Building on firm, excellent foundations like this, into entertaining and more complex routines, is what it's all about! I thought this was very well done, and an extremely good value for the amount of moves, intimate handlings you learn.

Thanks Hare for the wonderful rundown here. So glad people are enjoying JumpMandu. It really is whole lot of fun because the magic just keeps happening in a lot different ways. Thanks guys, so glad like it.

J-Mac: I had a similar problem, then I realized the ring on my right ring finger was too thick and made the move hard to do, so I squeeze harder and moved to a thinner ring ('gots to have ma bling').
MB: Burmuda!? I want to go on tour with you!

Thanks Ben.
I have also gotten very recent advice here for my Tenkai Pinch technique from Wes and the closest person I have for a mentor, kinda: Tim (including a great video from Tim!), so I'm still working on my TP. Otherwise I usually manage to find other methods that I do perform well and substitute those for the moves that are giving me the most difficulty. Of course I never actually give up on those moves; I just keep working on them till eventually my fingers surrender unconditionally and finally do what I command! (Well, for the most part! ) Thanks! Jim PS - I love your blog, Ben - thank you for that! |

Yes, that middle part of JumpMandu can be tricky but with some practice you can do it, plus it's a wonderful little move to learn and use in other things, extremely deceptive. With that, as mentioned here above, there are ways to do other things to get that part done. But I would encourage you to jwork on the TP, it's a really good move and my little take with it brings even more out of it, and when practiced it will then bring even more out of you, and that always feels really good.
Thanks again for all the continuing interest in the work, it's one of my very best I've been told.
