Fake! I loved Ellery Queen. Hey, I saw Col Sanders at a KFC opening, he was scary to see in real life.

Considering one name already brought up, what about Carolyn Keene?

Ever notice how most of these names are associated with food products?

KG5 is correct Sonny is indeed a real person. Sorry santa. In fact there is an interview in either Genii or Magic from quite sometime back with James Swain, where he talks a bit about the real Sonny.

I've seen Sonny Fontana perform, and was present at a party after the convention, when he performed the thread swallow and pulling it from his stomach. That was years ago, and nobody had even heard of that trick before. It was so freaky that it completely killed the upbeat mood at the party, which broke up very soon after that.
Sonny's shadow puppets were the best!

I've seen Angle Bubacci do that same bit, and it was a killer.

Rosie the Riveter was not a real person, but an iconic symbol of women who stayed on the homefront and worked in factories during WWII.
Tokyo Rose was not a real person, although one person stood trial as Tokyo Rose. She was convicted, and imprisoned, but later given a full pardon by President Gerald Ford.

Magnus Edmund de Grisy was a real person. Wasn't it his son that was killed during the bullet catch?

Robin Hood, Count Dracula... not real (although Dracula based on a real person).
Marquis de Sade, Casanova... real. Dorian Gray was not a real person, but was based upon a real person. As well, Hamlet was not a real person, though possibly based on a real person. MacBeth, on the other hand was a real person, although quite different than the character from Shakespeare's play. Bigfoot... a real person.

I think William Tell was real.
With regard to Franklin W. Dixon and Carolyn Keene, they were both part of the Stratemeyer syndicate. They eventually hired a stable of writers who would write out the stories for which Stratemeyer, and later his son, provided plots and outlines.

Just checked Wikipedia--it wasn't his son, but his daughters who continued the business.
