I've always been a fan of Film scores.
There have been many memorable movie theme songs over the years. Two of my favorite composers are Elmer Bernstein and Dimitri Tiomkin, who because of High Noon" was responsible for popularising theme songs with lyrics. These are some of my favorites: -The Magificent Seven/Main theme (Bernstein), which was later used in Marlbough commercials) -The Great Escape/Main Theme (Bernstein) -The High and the Mighty (Tiomkin) -The Green Leaves of Summer /The Alamo Theme (Tiomkin) a beautifully haunting song. -Goldfinger sung by Shirley Bassey So, what are some of your favorites?

Some of mine have already been mentioned, but here are some more in no particular order:
The title theme to Gods and Generals---Mary Fahl singing "Going Home" One of the most haunting opening songs ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FFQ0rCm1Mc&feature=related The title theme to "The Last Emperor" I know this has been used in several magic acts with Asian themed magic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAEIFvpgrGE Jerry Goldsmith's fantastic main theme from the movie "Patton" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mu11QRO9BrQ Title theme from the "Big Country" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQTH3a0mjR8&feature=related To me, Ennio Morricone's best piece from the Good,Bad and the Ugly was not the theme, but instead was "The Ecstasy of the Gold". Here's a live performance that is about as good as one can get: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmWTrcYbfpo&feature=related Here's another Jerry Goldsmith's theme from the first Startrek movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AiSbxZYViE I guess the all time greatest movie composer may be John William--besides Starwars and Jaws, there's: click on name Jurassic Park Indiana Jones E.T. Superman Cheers P.S. I almost forgot this. Not my favorite series of films, but the main theme is awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LZcMv0H1bI

Another vote for Ecstasy of Gold. Here is a version from Yo-Yo Ma on the Cello.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI6zLayBeJQ&feature=fvw Ennio Morricone is a genius. I like his work on Kill Bill as well.

Morricone still going strong, btw, with a career that's spanned well over 50(!!!) years.

Dr. JK, you'll enjoy this, then:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lk5_OSsawz4 Hmm- does "The Imperial March" from Star Wars count? I know it's not the main theme, but...
