For those who have this effect, do you have any other presentations other than the "if I put one in my pocket ..."

Mark Jenest has a routine that doesn't use those gaffs, but is the same "effect". He uses a presentation something like:
"I saw this guy do a trick with two coins, he took the silver coin, put it in his pocket...no wait (open hands) it was the copper coin...no wait (open hands) it was the silver coin... and so forth. And at the end when there are no coins he says something like, and that's why I never learned that trick. It can be found in Miracles While-U-Wait DVD.

Yeah, I think I remember seeing a clip of that.
I was thinking something along the lines of the coins transposing from my hand to something back and forth... but I'm looking for inspiration. |

Depending on your audiance age you can go into it as.... the other day I got pulled over the the police for speeding, the police officer said I'll give you a test and if you get it right you won't get a ticket but if you get it wrong you will.,then do the first phase of the routine. Sorry you get a ticket. then explain you took the ticket to court and the judge said, I'll give you a test...etc that's when you go through the rest of the phases...bla bla bla. that's how I always presented it.
If you present it in this type of fashion your the one getting the answers wrong and not the spectator. I never ask them which coin I have in my hand. I try to never challenge my spectators. But,.... there exceptions. I hope that helps. Tim

You can use a coin purse instead of pockets. Changes things up a bit. E.g., I use my himber purse from AmbitiousCard.com for Scott Guinn's "Pouched CSB" routine. Similar treatment can be used for Hopping Halves.
Thanks! Jim |

I like the story about the couple always brought back together by their love. There's a few variations on this, but there's one in this thread:

I have a small clothe bag that I got a while ago from "Ye Olde Curiosity Shop," down on the Wharf in Seattle, with its name printed on the side.
I talk about two coins that were behind the counter, that had to be sold in pairs. I insist on just getting one... and they keep joining each other back in the glass case. Not the full story of what I do, but that is the general idea. The bag really sells it, especially for anyone that has been in the shop and has seen all the cool and bizarre stuff there. RevJohn |

I hate rhyming patter, because it's nearly always unfunny, crap doggerel, though I daresay, delivered right, you can get away with it! The above verse, however, doesn't even SCAN!
Allow me... They met by chance in a vending machine And he knew in his heart that she was his queen! But Toonie was given to a beggar - how tragic! But he found his way back to his queen - by love's magic! oh God, sorry, I can't go on. I've lost the will to live. |

Ahem.. My apologies. You got me on a grumpy day...
My point is that, for me at any rate, if rhyming patter has any chance at all to work, it has to be amusing. ALL funny verse follows a regular rhythm and rhyme pattern: that's partly what makes it funny. (OK, there may be exceptions, but I can't think of any.) Similarly, "serious" poems often abandon tick-tock rhythms and smart rhymes. My (admittedly unrequested) criticism of the verse above is based on the absence of regular poetic metre - the beats per line - and the abundance of forced rhymes, where the phrasing and words are contorted simply to land on a rhyming word. "Toonie was given to a panhandler with a shove," for example. "Shove" has been forced into duty simply because it rhymes with "love". Anyway: I have no idea if you actually perform this. If you do, and it gets great reactions...well, what on earth do I know about anything?! |
