I have received my HYDRA a few days ago. I was a little sceptic about it first but after I have opened the box and had a little play I was literally amazed!
To begin with everything is made professionally and easy to operate: You have three Motion sensors that can be inserted to whatever you wish. In my routine they are inserted into three murder weapons. Person one conceals his murder weapon and if you wish so can person two and three. I am still with my back towards them but can already describe who took what murder weapon with relevant ease which means I have all the time in the world to give a good and strong Presentation. Or you may decide to have three pictures of certain evil individuals standing upon your table. The spectator keeps his chosen one standing and turn the other two face down on the table. Now with your back still turned you can either choose to describe which two pictures are face down on the table or which one is still standing! There are many other routines I can work with these motion sensors but not wishing to bore you I will stop here. Murder Mystery routine is always a very good strong and entertaining routine especially when HYDRA does all the work for you! The HYDRA relay is another excellent device that allows the performer to create Remote Controlled units from instruments that do not have this facility as if they were converted magically into Remote Control applications! The Sound Sensor is simply amazing! You can tell what happens in a different room by simply hiding the “Spy” device in another room and receive sound vibrations in a completely different room. Every little sound triggers the receiver and the receiver sends you a SECRET message to say that somebody entered the room or left the room etc. However, if you have a “Friend” in the other room they can send you secret messages just by tapping gently with their foot or any other way you may want to choose. So the “Psychic” thing here is as you see on TV: A person goes into a glass cabinet and ear pieces are covering his ears. The producers are sending horrible sounds through the ear pieces so the person cannot hear anything outside the glass cabinet and indeed his is blindfolded. However, the Thumper will send you the info which makes you the “Ultimate Psychic”. This is just a very short review on the HYDRA. Sometime people come up with thoughts of the third kind or from an Alien source. Jon Thompson certainly did when he had thought of HYDRA. I understand that HYDRA will evolve with time which makes me think…..Has Jon capture an Alien? Agreed. He is a genius (quite possibly an evil one at that). There is so much flexibility here that it just starts the mind racing with ideas. The fact that it can make objects change temperature, explode etc is fantastic.

Thanks chaps.
We designed Hydra to be as open-ended as possible so that it allow you to be as creative as possible with as few limitations as possible. Everything is compatible with everything else. There's no concept of having to buy a set of different effects. Like LEGO, you simply put together whatever you need before a routine and away you go. Different show, different routine, different configuration: the Hydra software takes care of everything. I did 5 years of hard core computer-aided software engineering in the UK and US, and the software running on Hydra is built to the same standards as you'd find in any mission critical system. I can't see any reason why it wouldn't be. The next sensor type coming available is a wearable magnetic field detector combining the range of the original Factotum FMT, the polarity sensing capability of the FMT-2, but with the rock steady stability of a completely redesigned digital circuit. The next outputs are a servo that is rated at just under 3Kg torque for serious shifting power, and a digital channel readout to act as a visual replacement to the default thumper. We also have quite a few spin-off projects using Hydra technology, and are gearing up to offer a customisation service so that you can have Hydra do exactly what you want exactly the way you want it. |

What is the timeline for your magnetic field detector?

I do wonder what Subversive Circuits are going to produce after Hydra. I am sure it would be hard to find something that will equal it in quality usfulness and price. I keep on admiring the set up and coming up with new and interesting routines. Hydra did fire up my imagination!
Thanks a lot for inventing such an awesome piece of Electronics for Magicians. Cheers Roni |

Perhaps one of the most useful aspects to Hydra is that everything we build has "Hydra Inside" and is compatible. This means that future props we produce will also be compatible with all the Hydra sensors. You take a book from a shelf. On returning to the table, you find the pendulum under a glass bell jar in the centre is now swinging on its own.
...and there's no one else in the room... |

Just a mental note for you all:
If you are afraid that your Glass Bell Jar will brake for whatever reason try this: Get a 2 litre Lemonade bottle. Drink the Lemonade and enjoy After the bottle is empty wash it clean and cut the bottom of the bottle with a Stanley Knife (Make the cut as straight as possible) Take off the label and clean the access glue. You now have a sort of a "Glass Dome". It is usually very clear for those that are looking through it and it does the job perfectly. It is also cheaper then buying a glss dome... There will be no charge for this little hint Enjoy Roni |
