Dumplings.

Read more, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dumplings

(Enjoy this thread while you can, due to the obviously controversial subject matter.)

"Savoury dumplings made from balls of dough are part of traditional British and Irish cuisine."

No one in Ireland would countenance eating such a thing. Wikipedia is the home of revisionists, fantasists, and downright liars.

Gotta admit that I've never heard of anything like "Irish dumplings".

Here's more food for thought on the subject: http://tinyurl.com/6ce3d9r

I make dumplings for my Czech style Goulash. It just wouldn't be the same without it.

Indeed. I've never once in my life come across someone eating a dumpling in Ireland!

Sounds like we've got a sort of Wiki-scandal brewing.

But Googling "irish dumplings" does indeed get a lot of hits: http://tinyurl.com/5tqbya2

I note that on the first couple of pages there is an absence of .ie domain names. Bit like green beer, you're unlikely to see such a thing in Eire! There aren't any Irish pubs either Smile

I only clicked two or three of the links. One of them was a recipe from a "sister" in Vermont. I'm not sure how much nuns in Vermont know about Irish cuisine....

I don't know much about dumpling. In fact, I can't recall ever having dumpled.

(Not true actually, I've enjoyed Austrian Knödel/Nockerl, also dim sum dumplings, and of course Scottish clootie dumpling. Although in this age of internationalism, it's decades longer since I've had the Scottish one than any of the others.)

I learned make southern-style chicken and dumplings. They're probably cheater dumplings, but it makes for a good meal.
