I have various sizes of Ball Bearings purchased at Big Box and specialty machinist shops.

I would be interested in a ball sized 1 3/4in, like the size of a golf ball. I also know that some of these balls exist,
and are hollow, which means they would not be so heavy. I want to maintain the look of a heavy metal ball, but don't want the weight of a solid ball in my pocket before I need it. |

Check with Stevens to see about some of the multiplying steel or "silver" balls. Some of those are about the right size.

You may also like the look of "Relaxation Spheres"
Sometimes they are painted, and may have a bell inside.

I use Bocci balls. Heavy, large and fall with a thud. I use it in my steel ball and tube routine.
 pictured is a juggling ball, a wood ball (maybe croque), a 3" sponge ball and the silver ball.

It's a bit late, but the best time to get hollow silver balls is Christmas. You will see 1", 2", 3" and 6" balls - all hollow plastic with a mirror coating.

Before you start sending Corbett off looking at stuff that is completely unsuitable, please re-read his second post. The "silver spheres" I mentioned are approximately the correct size and are hollow.

Yes, this is an old thread, but another option to solid metal balls is what I have done:
Use cork balls and gild them! The light reflects off of them, making them read as though they were solid. You also get a choice of colors (copper, silver and gold)! The finish IS fragile and WILL need touching up from time to time, but they look solid, and if you treat them as if they weigh half a kilo, then the effect is the same (we are all "actors playing the part of a magician"...). The major advantage is that they will not talk like the metal balls will. |
