I bought this dvd set from UK seller. Today the dvd arrived: one plasic box with 3 dvd's in it. The shiny part with a blue glow, like copy dvd's have. And a rough paper label, with the levent's details on, not shiny paper, what makes me think this is a copy. There is no index on paper of the shown effects, like the webiste does.
Does anyone own this dvd? And can you tell me if this is a fake? I would like to file a claim, but I just want to be sure. PS: sorry for starting a new topic for this, It does not fit in any discussion, and it is just to important for me... Thanks a lot |

Send an email directly to Levant to this web site, I'm sure he will be glad to let you know...

Papillon,
You definitely have a pirate copy and I suggest you get in touch with the seller to get your money back. I have the set from Levant and it's exactly the level of quality that you would expect - immaculate. Good Luck, John

I have to ask the question, Why would someone purchase something from somebody who has only posted once?

Maybe Levent could chime in, but I bought the Miser's dream set direct from Levent - not via a dealer or any other third party - and my set is as you describe - the DVDs have a blue sheen to them and the labels are black and white and printed on paper. There is a single plastic box containing the three DVDs. The only difference from what you describe is that I also have a single printed A4 sheet in the package with the titles and chapters for the three DVDs, with the running times for each disc.
So it sounds like you probably have a genuine set, unless you have some other reason to think otherwise. I should say the DVD set is absolutely the best treatment of the miser's dream I've seen in any medium and one of the very best purchases I've made in magic. Honestly - the labels didn't worry me. |

I have bought other DVD's directly from Levent and they all have paper labels with black text. The reverse of the disks are a purple / blue color, just like the ones you can buy from a local stationary shop. So it's sounds like they are legit.

Now that we have established it's a legitmate product...I'd very much like to hear details on what you all think of it. It's hard to find it reviewed in depth.
I love Coin hand magic, and am particluarly fond of T. Nelson Down's work. I'd particularly like to know how in depth Levent goes on Down's work. I always learn better from books than video, being very read-y, slow and techincal, but, this is the rare DVD I'm considering making an exception for. Enlighten me!

First - caveat - I'm a casual amateur, not a pro, so this is a hobbyist's perspective.
It's a three DVD set, more than five hours of material, mostly Levent speaking to camera and demonstrating moves, devices and routines. The material is both tutorial and historical. To give you an idea of content, the chapter headings are here: http://web.mac.com/leventmagic/LeventMagic/Misers_Dream.html The key thing to bear in mind if you're a hardcore coin guy is that Levent is approaching the Miser's Dream from a stage perspective - so everything is geared towards large scale, stage performance. This isn't a DVD set about coin work in general, or close-up work - although you could certainly use some of the material in close-up. The material is squarely aimed at "The Miser's Dream" - the specific stage effect of plucking coins from the air and dropping them in a bucket. Levent goes into great detail on the way he prepares his coins, bucket and other props, and these modifications are all geared towards a high-impact stage performance. A massive variety of cunning mechanical devices are discussed in depth, along with their historical context. A wide variety moves are covered - there's a lot of discussion of Downs and his methods and sleights. The routines of a lot of magicians are discussed - Downs, Potassy, Flosso and Benson in particular, although there are contributions from many others. I absolutely loved this DVD set; I'll try to explain why. Levent speaks with the authority of a working professional who uses this material in his act. There's no BS. This isn't a glossy "extreme street magic underground extreme pro edition" kind of thing, it's the thoughts of a very experienced professional on one of the greatest - if not the greatest - effects in magic. He's obviously thought about the material a lot, tried out various methods, and refined his act over a considerable period of time. He very generously shares that process with us on the DVDs. More than that, he's also studied the history of the effect in great depth. Now, the thing that's great about the historical material is that because of his practical experience with the effect, Levent is able to infer more about the nuances of historical sleights, routines and devices than most magicians could. He points out the advantages and disadvantages of specific sleights, routining and devices with the authority of working experience, rather than simply personal preference or theory. It's all very solid stuff, really well explained. There's a "making of" thread here that gives an idea of where Levent is coming from: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......um=10&83 If you're into Downs' material, Levent's thoughts on Downs' trademark sleights - bp and dp, and moves with whole stacks of coins - are great. For instance, Levent's discussion and demonstration of Downs' "new fan pass" along with his modified version - are just amazing. I'm not sure any other contemporary coin DVD has this kind of material. All in all, great value, really interesting, very practical. |

Levent is a waterfall of information and ideas.
It is unbelieveable how he put all this stuff on only 3 dvd's. |
