Okay, Michael Mosher (Wack-0-Magic) finally sent me a set of his Mis-Made Monster.
Want to make sense of the Strat-O-Spheres plot, well he’s ready and waiting. The “tube” is square, it’s Dr. Frankenstein’s spooky castle! Inside is the Monster himself, except he has a problem… His body keeps falling apart and it’s tough to keep parts in order. Instead of a silly “Joker Box” that is not deceptive, there’s a great lightning-bolted large Devil’s Handkerchief. Each piece was hand-sculpted and molded, all decoration was hand applied. Frankie is really cute too~ It’s practical magic and a collector’s item as well. And me, I was the lucky guy who got to work on a very funny routine. As the Frankie story unfolds, with each gory detail the kids yell “Ewwu!” Then when the magic gets going we decided on a really fun poem, with really silly rhymes the kids will love. There’s even line drawings that show the story to hand out for the kids to color. Well, if you need a logical, practical, classy, entertaining version of the old classic. This is for you. These are hard to make and take a ton of time to craft, so not many will be made. And yes…. a demo-video IS in the works. Quality takes time. This is the very best mismade anything I have ever seen. I have a Skeleton in the closet and a Santa in the chimney, and this just blows them away.

This does look fantastic
What is the overall height of the monster when he is made up? Thanks Matthew |

Mr. Marvel!
The monster is about 9" high.. in 3" segments. The castle tube is 14". The cloth for vanishing the head is 30"square..and has HUGE bright lightening bolts silk screened on it.. It's ABOUT the same size (a little bigger actually) as a regular Strat-o-Sphere.. but packs MUCH smaller because there's no box to vanish the ball in. http://www.wack-o-magic.com look for the Mis-Made Monster.. and keep and eye out for other COOL stuff coming out. |

Not every-one uses a box to vanish the ball (look at Duane Laflin's routine)

I like the vanishing box n the traditional Stratosphere. Maybe not the joker graphic, but the box is good.
The head seems like it would be a bit lumpy for a devil's hank. |

Wiz Kid "Wilhelmina's Witch Hank" is described in her "New Santa Blocks Trick" in The Wizards' Journal #19 (on my site) solves the lumpy problem. Her block is a 3.5 inch cube so the usual Devil's Hank or Go-Go Vanisher variation weren't of much use. The Witch Hank can handle that size block and probably up to a six inch cube, but the best part of her Witch Hank is that the silk handkerchief is decorated with a cartoon of Santa and when the head vanishes, the cartoon vanishes along with it. If used with Frankenstein, you could make a design with a cartoon Frankie which loses its head at the same time the block head vanishes from beneath it. It's only for "Do It Yourself" magicians who can sew and can paint and dye their own silks, however, but that is no longer the difficult job it used to be years ago, thanks to modern silk dyes and sewing machines.

This Devil's Handkerchief is correctly made and easily and cleanly vanishes Frankie's head.
The lightning flashes on the foulard also aid the deceptive nature. One problem with the traditional box is the angle problems, especially at Birthday Party semi-circles. This allows everything to be performed surrounded actually, Magically, Walt |

I agree Walt, some devil's hanks are much better than others. I made mine with a much greater load chamber and the use of a pattern greatly aids the deception.
Has anyone used a Miller Hank(needed for the Christmas Egg Bag on David Ginn's website)? It has a pocket to accept smaller props like Christmas baubles.

These have been selling like crazy, and he's only made an initial run of fifteen, so if they do he'll have to decide to hand make more or not, if you were considering this now is a good time to ask Michael your questions and reserve a set. Walt

There are only 4 left!! Time to get it before the summer rush of shows.. There won't be anymore made for some time... they're too expensive to make.. and I need to concentrate on other projects for a while.

This one's going to be a great addition to my Halloween show . . . Hi Michael, we're looking forward also to some of your other forthcoming effects. I am especially interested in the Druid Box and Hangman. Are those going to be produced for fall shows?
Thanks and congrats on the Mismade Monster. Todd Mumblemore Magic |

Mumblemore..
The druid box is on the short list of projects to finish.. the Hangman may be taken off the list. So far, it's simply too complicated and expensive to make for anything other than a custom version. Right now, it's practically illusion pricing because of all of the electronics and custom parts. I'd expect the druid herb chest will be available well before Halloween. Thank you for supporting http://wack-o-magic.com PS.. why just halloween shows?.. the monster is SO CUTE!! I think the routine could be worked so that it can easily be a year round routine! |
