I don't think mankind grasps the magnitude of what happened in Japan.
The entire country was picked up and moved 8 feet. http://articles.cnn.com/2011-03-12/world......PM:WORLD Movement of the earth's plates caused the formation of our continents over millions of years. On Friday one of those plates moves 8 feet at one time. It's mind boggling. |

Well, I do not agree with your theory that the continents formed over millions of years. The geographical data we have seems to indicate that the continents broke apart pretty rapidly. For about the last 4500 years they have been moving apart slowly (based on the accumulation of silt at the mouths of world rivers), but the sea floor should look much different if your explanation were correct.
From approximately three inches of "drift" per year to eight feet at one time in one catastrophic event? It's not inconceivable that another catastrophic event 4500 years ago could have caused the continents to slip apart from a single supercontinent in about a year and a half to their approximate positions today.
