I asked my doctor how I should loose weight. He told me run five miles a day, and call me in two weeks. I called him after two weeks, and he asked me how I felt, I told him terrible, he said why, and I said well first of all I'm 70 miles from my home.

All I want to take the credit for is being able to remember a joke that I heard 45 years ago.

Hey I just saw this post! Congrats on your success with P90X, I'm very familiar with the product, too, as I happen to be the voiceover artist on the infomercial. It has been wildly successful...so much so it now has a Wikipedia entry! http://chriscaldwellvoiceovers.com |

Me? 215 needing to get to 190.
Began walking a mile in December, then graduated to a mile and a half, and now two miles each day on the treadmill, 40 minutes at three miles per hour, steady pace. At 64 and with old joints, that's about all I'm good for. That was my New Year's resolution. Bought a bunch of Healthy Choices frozen dinners and for two weeks have been having them for dinner with a salad. Breakfast/Brunch (I sleep late) is an egg, some low salt, low fat ham and sometimes wheat toast with Smart Balance; sometimes not. Sometimes two links of sausage, and without toast. Sometimes a bowl of Grape Nuts and 1% milk. Sometimes a peanut butter and low sugar Smuckers jam sandwich. Late afternoon, maybe a half banana, or a few grapes, or a few peanuts, whatever, you get my gist. Late night, maybe a slice or two of Coopers Sharp cheese. Half can of sardines are also yummy for me. Or something like it. Prior to the two week diet I put myself on, I ate myself silly like I always do...I love steak and a baked potato with all the stuff, abd the daily treadmill meant zilch. Though I do feel better for it. But in the last two weeks I've lost five pounds. Slow, and I'm still feeling satisfied. My goal is to be at 190-195 in about three months. The Healthy Choice meals were a good way for me to start, but I also need some home stuff mixed in. So tomorrow, I'm having fresh flounder in a reasonable portion, a salad and some broccoli. Also mixed in next week will be some good steak in four ounce portions (I normally polish off a good two-inch thick filet) , and something else healthy, like a small roasted red potato with some rosemary and olive oil coating, sans sour cream and butter. And salad always works. The Healthy Choices got me to thinking small portions. That's always been my problem. So. It seems to be working for me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

As was said by someone else: losing weight is 100% calories in vs calories out. It doesn't matter what you eat. You can eat twinkies all day and as long as you burn 500 more calories than you eat, you will lose 1/2 pound a day. Guaranteed. Everything else is a money making scheme.

There is a difference between weight-loss and fat-loss.
They don't always go hand-in-hand.

FWIW, since this has been resurrected, I've been having success with the "slo-carb" diet from the book "4 hour body." The nice thing is that, unlike a lot of things like the Atkins diet, is that it is totally healthy and sustainable. You also have a "cheat day" built in (although it's not cheating, it's actually an important part of the process) so you get to eat whatever you want.
At this moment I've lost 60 pounds. I lost 10 pounds almost immediately, 20 pounds very quickly. Getting to 50 pounds was slower comparatively, but still quick. Getting to 60 took a month or two (that's a month or two after I had gotten to 50 of course). Currently I've been leveled out at 60 pounds for about two months, which is great but it's a little discouraging because I have at least another 40 (probably 50) to go. I have not been exercising much during this time so I'm hoping that that will do it, but without the motivation of my martial arts classes it's had for me to really get into it regualrly. EDIT: While I was writing the above I was eating some amazing vegetable soup with lentils for breakfast (I just added diced sauteed leeks which made a huge difference).

I'm trying to lose some weight. My wife needs a kidney and I have to be down quite a bit before I can even be matched.
*sigh* I'm not doing very well.
