I posted this under words we use but since it is such a kid friendly idea I wanted to run it by you guys here.
I want to run my idea for my Mini Asrah by you guys and see if I can flesh this out a bit. I will start by asking if anyone plays dolls. This can be funny at a boys party and give a connection at a girls. "Well I played 'action figues' when I was young'" At this point I pull out the girl doll. "my favorite action figure game was magician". I then pull out a Ken doll dressed in a suit. In the boy doll voice "I need an assistant from the audiance". In the girl doll voice "I'll be your assistant. I just love magicians because they are so smart...and handsome" Look at the audiance with a big grin. The magician will now put his assistant in a trance "you are getting sleepy, sleeeeeeepy" have doll fall onto the table with an audible thud. I cover the doll with a cloth. In the magician voice "are you comfortable?" In the girl voice "I'mmmm in a tranccce". Raise the arms outstreched of the Ken doll and put him on stand. Do the levitation and then vanish. Hold he ken dolls arms outstreched and have him bow a couple of times. Kind of long typed out, but what do you think? |

There was a Barbie Asrah marketed a few years back! Sorry if you thought you'd invented it. I made up a version where I told the story about when I was young and I used to play magican with my sisters dolls. I took a barbie from the box, did the asrah bit and the barbie ended up back in the box.

I have a mini asrah, in fact I recently posted it for sale here on the Café, but no response.
I bought it in 1983, and it has pretty well sat on my shelf since. Same as the one pictured above. It's still available |

I am sorry if I did not make myself clear. I am not claiming to have invented it, I was just asking for feedback on my idea for PRESENTING it.

I like this trick and your presentation a lot. If you present this to children 6 and below, may want to tone down the erie portion (i am in a tranc..e.e.)a little at the end of the trick, just my thoughts.

Years ago I did the Mini-Asrah in my show. I liked the trick but never really came up with a good routine so I took it out of the show. I think your routine is great. I wish I would have thought of it.

Good routine, Montymagi. Wiz Kid Wilhelmina is working on a floating dolly as well, but she'll have a different approach since she is a nine-year old performing for other kids her age. However, her method seems to be different from all the standard mini-asrahs that I've seen over the years. I guess that is because she never actually saw one before and has no pre-conceived notions other than what she has seen illusionists performing on TV. It will be arriving on my site soon in her forthcoming book "Magic For Girls," but I have a feeling it will be of interest to more than just other nine year old girls.

Weird,I wonder if the offending post has been removed
My mistake, it was another thread about this illusion. I won't bump it but it was titled Barbie Doll Levitation |

Monty,
Sounds like a winning routine. The Mini-Asrah can be a real winner in the right hands. Peter |

Love that routine, Monty! Sounds like the kind of humor that would play well with all ages. Quick, quirky and entertaining, with a nice magic effect to boot.
BTW, Peter Loughran is still selling his version - it's not technically an asrah, but the effect is the same and it has a reappearance in a mini-crystal casket for the big finish: http://www.masterofillusions.ca/me-asrah.html
