I saw some magic wands that were rolled up in a small package, held together with a rubber band, and when you remove the rubber band it pops into a two foot long plastic magic wand. Where can I buy this item? I also saw some real cool paper balloons, but I don't know where to buy them either.

Hi Al -
Here's an older thread about the wands, with links. It was in The Little Darlings area. --> Magic Café thread titled... Give......ng wands I'm not sure what you mean by the other item. - Donald

Beautiful Donald that is exactly the magic wand that I was looking for.
The other item comes from China, and looks like a small round lantern, but is made of paper.

Did you google "paper lantern"? Or was there something special about these paper lanterns? - Donald

They are sold flat with a hole at one end. When you blow into the hole it inflates without the need for a knot because they are made of brightly colored paper. It is a cheap item with a lot of kid appeal.

Yes it is first Friday Skippack. When I contacted them they told me that they had no plans to have a magician. I start May 6th, and go till October. They couldn't afford my prices, so I'm taking 1/2 my usual fee, the rest will be BOR, and pass the hat. I wanted to get this job because Skippack is where the local rich folk live, and the business men's association will fill the down town streets with people for me. If you PM me I'll tell you what other local community celebrations I am booked at. Sam I'm a little surprised that you are interested in these small jobs. PS Don't tell Kyle anything about this conversation. LOL

Well as you mentioned they could not afford your fees and that is what must have happend as then never called back so my fees must have been out of control for them. LOL
I was looking at it from two ways one not as a regular gig but as a main attraction 2 or 3 times with the opportunity to sell my stuff as well two some nice press is going to come out of this and publicity is always a good thing. not to mention its right around the corner from here so no travel. good luck and I will have to bring my daughter one night and stroll down and hope to see you performing where will you be focused any one shop or strolling the whole area. and my lips are sealed Kyle will never ever ever know this conversation ever happened!!

I will be doing short shows in front of the Floral & Hardy plant store. My PA will be set up in the parking lot, and I expect to finish every show with a flaming torche juggling finish just before my wife pass the hat. Yes bring your lovely daughter she is the perfect audience volunteer, but I don't know if my magic will impress her, she is a vetern performer.
PS I saw your ad in Metro Kids, are you having any luck there?

I do a b unch of shows for them and in trade I get the ads but cant say I have gotten any phone calls from the ads. so when it runs out I don't renew.
I guess if I had them in there long term ( ayear or more) they would generate gigs but I having much better time with my target marketing and my word of mouth advertising. I am looking to keep my name out there in many other ways but metro kids is nice but I think I have just gotten out of the price range the readers can afford or willing to spend. yes I will make plans to be there one night so its the first friday of every month starting in may right??

Years ago there was a lot of entertainers that advertised with Metro Kids, and Kids Express, but all I ever got there was the low end customers. I get all of my business now from word of mouth, agencies, my web site, and networking with other entertainers. FYI In May I will start table hopping in "Lou's Too" restaurant in Trapp on Tuesday nights from 6:00 to 7:30. I don't plan on making a lot of money at Lou's, but it will probibly generate some local work, this traveling to New Jersey, or Delaware for a birthday party is getting old.

I hear ya on the travel I put about 30,000 miles a year on the truck1
I do a restaurant an looking to add another one soon. they are fun and steady money and do indeed generate some shows. so let me ask you how does one get into an agency? I never seem to find one that will take me. not talking gig salad or gigmasters are you, do they really offer anything??

First of all we are not in the same league, and the people who book me wouldn't know how to handle you, but that being said I went through the entertainment section of the phone book, and called everybody except the escort services. Other agencys found me through the internet. You'de be better off if you asked a local illusionist, like Dick G. Did you get an application for sneak previews in October? If not I can send you one. My experience with Gig Saled, and Gig Master was all of my referals from them were price shoppers.

Yea I can ask Dick he and were just performing at the jersey magic jam last week!
yup got the sneek previews and mailing it in this week, I hope they pick me again to demo in norristown, I will admit this is one thing that has worked well for me, every year I get more and more libraries and that is a great thing. I hear ya Al, this summer I am running the 7 week magic camp again as well as lots of regular camp shows. its crazy but not complaining. yea I think I will stay away from the gig masters stuff as 95% of my biz is referals heck I don't even advertise anymore except my target marketing stuff. but I am thankful that in this economy that I am still working full time!

My phone started ringing in January, and because of that I was able to quit my day job. From 2008 to 2010 I had no work, but I'm working now. WHOOP TE DO
