Well, darn it.
So there's this bodybuilder, Ronnie Coleman. He's tied for record wins for the big championship Mr. Olympia title. He is also one of the biggest bodybuilders of all time. He had stated on his website that he didn't do steroids. He claimed that when Sports Illustrated ran a story on bodybuilding which called steroids the "Wheaties of Bodybuilding" he quit reading it because he hated that stereotype and had never touched the drugs. Ronnie Coleman also worked for the Arlington police force for the entire time that he was competing so I figured there's even more reason to trust him. I try my best to give everyone the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. Well now he has admitted to steroids, pretty frickin nonchalantly I might add, in an interview with a bodybuilding magazine. OK, so he did the drugs. That's not really my beef. A lot of good athletes have had to resort to them to compete. What bothers me the most is that he was using illegal drugs while working as a cop. That's not ok. That's a dirty cop. Another athlete, Chael Sonnen (He's the guy that almost stopped Anderson Silva's reign of terror in the UFC Octagon) has been brought up on money laundering charges. If I remember right I think he plead guilty. So there you have it. Two less people for me to look up to. Guess you really can't trust anybody. The best you can hope for is that they be predictable so at least you know when to duck.

Sports is big business I guess. And like you say, an athlete can't afford not to take any edge s/he can.

Not all heroes are heroes. Just because two people let you down shouldn't change how you feel about sport. As for performance enhancing substances, I think they have become part and parcel of sport which is whythere are many sports I have stopped watching. I hope my children get to play sports for the sake of the game.

Especially Ronnie... Come on, just look at Ronnie! Now look at the "Natural Bodybuilding" Competitions, the only ones who don't use steroids (so they say)... They're never THAT big when they're ripped. Anyway, I share your concern as Ronnie was on the Police Force during it all. "Roid rage" has never really been proven as a fact but you don't give a guy authority (and a gun) while on Steroids. That's just stooopid... Well, we can only do OUR best. Good thread actually...

Well, most BB's since the 50's yes. I've seen some pretty impressive physiques on people who had no access to the drugs.
My rationale for the possibility that Ronnie didn't was genetics. Everybody's got an inhibitory gene that tells their body when to stop growing. So I thought maybe Ronnie had a mutation in that gene. It's possible. Not highly probable, but enough for me to say "Maybe if he says he didn't then he didn't. There could be another explanation for his freakishness." Sadly, that was not the case. I mean, don't get me wrong, dude trained hard. He still earned those muscles. But yeah, cop on drugs. No.

Just wondering, do women bodybuilders use steroids too?

The IFBB implemented drug testing for a short time.
The Ms O at the time, Lenda Murray, failed the test.
